TALLAHASSEE. Fla. (AP) -- How weird is Florida? So weird that not one, not two, but three different books have been titled "Weird Florida."
-snip-
Florida did indeed have scores of weird stories in 2005, from the woman who concealed a stolen parrot in her bra to a beagle puppy that was trained to sniff out pythons to a Key West man who robbed a bank with a pitchfork.
The beagle, which was put to use in the Everglades, probably wasn't such a bad idea after the number of snake incidents last year. One Burmese python swallowed a Siamese cat, another slithered into a poultry shack and ate a turkey before getting stuck inside because of the bulging bird and yet another tried to devour a 6-foot alligator before the ambitious effort caused the 13-foot snake to burst.
-snip-
A few dumb criminals made the news.
A man suspected of burglarizing a massage therapy business was arrested after he returned to the scene looking for his missing wallet. Two thieves stole an employee's car at a Pensacola-area gas station then returned an hour later to fill up. They were arrested.

This from a resident of New York? LOL
Well, Florida does have a lot of influence of people coming from other states, as well as a lot of rednecks from Georgia and Alabama, up in the Panhandle.
Hey..it was worth a shot.
Not to mention the FACT that many of those 'stupid voters' are retirees from New York and New Jersey. We just need more a**holes from NY to come down here and show us 'how we do it up north.' Then Florida will be juuuust fine.
Posted from wife's screenie... direct replies to ericthecurdog. Whoops. Stupid Florida voter, signing out.
I live in FL and I can tell you there are some crazy people here. It's like the area is in a constant tug of war between liberal northerners, old fashioned southerners, trailer trash, and just plain families trying to make a living.
It is a different world here. When I read stories about Austrailia, I sometimes wonder if the places are similar. People there seem to have the same independent streak.
This coming from a resident of a state that elects a senator to represent them, who's resume consists of being married to a guy who was president, and a woman who has never even lived in the state she purports to know how to represent.
This isn't weird. Beagles are used in Guam to search for snakes hitching rides from Hawaii.

Do a little more research. Home of the transplanted retired New Yorker and PA's. Bleck! Think about it. No problems anywhere except "blue couties".
damn, read the entire article and didn't see anything else on the pitchfork robbery....I've been looking for a good six shot repeating pitchfork...anyone know where I can get one???
Thank you GENH. I just flamed someone else regarding this point.
California has the same problem. New Yorkers discovered the weather out here too and came not to retire, but to use our university system to get an education, get into politics, and then ruin the state with their New York socialism.
US Senator Barbara Boxer, former Governor Gray Davis are but honorable mentions in a long line of Big Apple lefties rotting California.
The infamous Mario Savio of the "Free Speech Movement" , that began the "Sixties" at UC Cal at Berkeley, was from New York.
Most of them were NY snowbirds and retirees.
Funny, huh? Especially since the majority of stupid voters down in West Palm, etc., are FROM New York.
Geez, you not only have to worry about invaders from the South, but the East as well!
