David Letterman Defends Cindy Sheehan [Won't Be Watching Letterman ALERT]
Polipundit ^ | Jan. 4, 2006 | Lorie Byrd

Posted on 01/04/2006 6:14:05 AM PST by conservativecorner

I just finished watching most of the Bill O’Reilly interview on David Letterman and I am a bit sick now. David Letterman defended Cindy Sheehan against Bill O’Reilly, who expressed a problem with Sheehan calling insurgents “freedom fighters.” She has said so many more outragous things than that, but they were not mentioned in the section I heard.

Another thing Letterman did was talk about how our decision to invade Iraq was based on this president’s intelligence service. There was no mention of the entire previous decade of the Clinton administration’s intelligence gathering that led to making regime change in Iraq our national policy. There was no mention of intelligence services around the world that came to the same conclusions. Nor of the UN’s position that Saddam had not destroyed WMD they knew him to possess. It was a pretty sorry spectacle and what really bothers me is that programs like Letterman’s and Leno’s and Today and GMA and The View are where many Americans (possibly even the majority) get their “news.” It is truly a sad thing to see.

What is sad is to see is someone in the media so ignorant (or brainwashed) about things that everyone should know. That John Kerry and Bill Clinton and so many other Democrats believed, and stated on record, the same things that George Bush believed about WMD is something that anyone with even a mediocre memory should remember. I really hate to say this, but I think the things I heard from Letterman (and that I hear from others like him) go beyond ignorance and poor recollection and come closer to brainwashing territory.

UPDATE: Ace of Spades has a great post on Letterman (he includes a top ten list repost, too). Newsbusters has a link to a video clip and posts a partial transcript. I knew that Letterman was anti-war and anti-Bush. He has made no secret of either. The level of emotion he displayed in the interview was much more intense than anything I have seen from him before on this subject. Ace made the point perfectly, Letterman was speaking from emotion. He even admitted that he didn’t really have all the facts. That pretty much sums up the interview. Emotions rule, don’t confuse him with the facts.

I don't watch Let I don't care if he does have his show here in NYC. Something about him gives me the creeps. I prefer Leno as a host anyway.

Used to really enjoy Letterman years ago.

Haven't had any use for him in a long time, though.

David who?

Seriously, I've never watched his show, just as I've never watched Leno. I quit watching late-night talk shows when Carson retired.

Just another unapologetic Clintern boot licker.

Old hippies like Dave still can't get over the fact that one of their own party boys ain't in charge anymore, the adults are.

I'd love to boycott Letterman's show, but the truth is I haven't watched that @sshole in years. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen more than ten seconds of his show anyway.

Letterman was a jerk before defending Sheehan. I have never watched him.

I was flipping around during the innumerable time outs during the Orange Bowl and saw the latter part of the interview. Letterman was really bothered that O'Reilly would dare to say anything negative about a woman who had lost her son. O'Reilly really fumbled an opportunity to smash Letterman's viewpoint to bits.

All he had to say was "if a woman lost her son to a drunk driver then came out and campaigned against drunk driving, we'd all applaud her. If she went beyond that to demand a ban on alcohol because her son died, almost all of us would say she was going too far".

It isn't that Sheehan lost her son and is upset with the war; it's that she's gone well beyond that to ally herself with evil people who want to kill us. She's an extremist, and people like Letterman don't get that point, so it needs to be driven home.

Letterman is typical of the east coast liberal elite. They think Bush is dumb and that Bush isn't intellectually curious. But they evaluate every situation and every news story based on whether it hurts Bush. If it hurts Bush, then whether or not the story is true, it's a good thing. They aren't intellectually curious enough to evaluate stories based on the facts. They're guilty of the same thing they accuse Bush of being guilty of.

I've always been of the opinion that Paul Shaffer is a cleverly disguised animatron programmed to mimic a human being.

Yeah, I heard the audio this morning. What a creep Letterman is. Just disgusting. And I'm no fan of O'Reilly at all. What a cheap shot set-up that was.

Never again for that jerk's show. F*** him.

Ignorance and deception is the problem! Everyone in the MSM reports what they want the sheeple to know and after awhile, they even believe their own lies.
