Ok, and honestly, I don't mean to be a pest, but if HE was engagedin "misappropriation" of funds, how does that at all affect anyone who took money "in good faith?" Are pols supposed to now check out every penny given them to make sure that WHO is giving them money is also squeaky clean?

If you go here they break down the info various ways. You may be able to get Washington State info at this website. Mostly likely you will have to wade thru the indivual office holders donor lists.

A lobbyist doesn't give one hoot 'who' he gives money to. He's looking for votes whether they are Democrat or Republican, and politicians are looking for contributions, period.

Britt Hume hit it straight on last night by saying (paraphrase) "They might as well put bars on all the offices of the Capitol if lobbying is against the law."

Looks like plenty of cash on both sides of the aisle. This list doesn't mean a whole lot unless the illegal stuff can be highlighted. And congress critter can take campaign contributions. Its the illegal stuff I am interested in. But I am not disparaging your post.

The money was given by the Inidan tribes for certain product,, they may have gotten some of the expected returns on their investments, but some of the monies never went for its intended purpose.

I like your comment about squeaky clean, btw.

That is a noble goal, but one not even McCain could hope to achieve, but it should at least make some politicos think twice next time folks start shovelling money at them "without any strings attached".. yet.

These people are obviously part of the Republican "Culture of Corruption".

Actually, the real corruption is reflected in the media's use of Abramoff to trash Republicans only.

Taking money from a lobbyist is not a crime. Doing favors, writing and pushing legislation, providing regulatory relief and doing favors for money and gifts are all illegal.

I think this is an important fact that people are missing, especially when we are looking at the list provided here. How do we know what were legal contributions and what were not? Many of the Dems and Repubs on this list may have received legal donations from Abramoff and his cohorts. Only time will tell.

Thank you so much!

All I've heard is that the GOP is "worried" about the impact of Abramoff.

I think the dems need to be more worried.

How many of these people are due for re-election this year? That will prove very interesting.

Oh year. No problem with frying crime but I do object to political manipulation of facts and selective outrage. Have NO problem frying anyone who broke the law regardless of party however, IF we are going to accept "guilt by accusation and association" then the DEMOCRATS, especially ALL their current leadership, are equally guilty.

Thanks for the list. I'm confused... John Kerry is listed as a BIG recipient on your list, but not on the Capital Eye page. What am I missing?

As I understand it (from Fox News last evening) Abramhoff was a lobbyist for an Indian group in Northern Michigan. He lobbied Washington on their behalf seeking support for them in Congress. As you can see, a large number of congressmen were happy to oblige; both Democrat and Republican. This in itself is not illegal. If a congressman agrees to a proposal (say promote a bill or whatever) that's no different than you or I seeking representation. The problem is when there is a quid-pro-quo; i.e. if Abrahamoff offered gifts or money in turn for the congressman's cooperation. That's illegal.

However, just because a congressman received donations doesn't automatically mean it was in payoff for services. To get a conviction, the government would have to prove the connection between the gift and the action by the congressman.
