Why? Because he [McCain] is independent, outspoken and a war hero. He might actually win, which could fatally loosen the current GOP machine's grip on things. They would rather see McCain go the route of war hero Bob Dole, who lost.
Towery's on my list.
Gringrich in '08?
Uh, why did Gringrich leave the Congress?
Oh, yeh. Ethic violation.
===
You think the dems won't beat that over his head through the primaries?
Gingrich might last to SuperTuesday, but I wouldn't even count on him lasting that long.
His 'listening tour' under the guise of book tours and talk radio appearances haven't mustered much in the way of ground-swell support.
The prochoice Catholic women won't tolerate a divorced man.
I was feeling a little Gingrish when I got up this morning but I'm much better now.
I was and continue to be a big fan of Newt's and will always appreciate him and his efforts in winning the House in 94.
That said, he will never be president.
With the proper pneumatic- and torque-application machinery, I believe I can.
Here I am adjusting for thickness:
All Your Homos Are Belong To Us...
Gingrich is so hellbent on rekindling his image, he's changed the spelling of his name!!
The republicans need someone who can WIN. NG could never win if nominated.
------
So how do we do that, without putting another liberal in the White House and call him a Republican???
Never, ever allude to being on a short list when "penis" is the topic!
Consider yourself short-listed.
My Native American name is 'Manhood Scrapes Knees'.
Maybe.
But at least my list is fat.
Illegal immigration is the #1 important agenda on this election, what is Mr. Gingrich's stand on that issue???
Could have been worse: You could have been short-sheeted.
Not in my household. McCain is bottom of barrel material; he'll not get my vote in a primary. No way, unless the only other choice is a Lincoln Chafee clone.
This is Georgia based wishful thinking. Many problems with Matt's theory.
First off it assumes there is a GOP in crowd that is willing to endure four to eight years of Hillary just so brother Bush can be the next president. Very doubtful. This bunch really doesn't control the party any longer. Simply look at the way Bush ran in 2000 it was not as a Bob Dole or even Jack Kemp type. To win the GOP nomination you have to appeal to the base which Gingrich doesn't. He has "moral" baggage, appears to be a Washington insider in an outsider party.
He is right about McCain the "establishment" doesn't like him and neither does the base. And it is not because he is a war hero. It is because he is to in bed with the MSM and the inside Washington crowd. Gingrich certainly is not a favorite of the MSM but he no doubt hangs with the same in crowd as McCain. The establishment also didn't like Reagan, whatever happened to him? McCain can win because he looks like a winner but he really needs to improve his appearance as a main stream conservative and of course he does that at the threat of losing his "Hardball with Chris Matthews" support.
Finally, this is not the GOP of 1992. The bench is much deeper and times have certainly changed. If you are running against Newt in the primaries for example simply make a commercial showing him standing with Hillary Clinton and goodbye primaries hello Fox News. If the GOP turns from McCain and goes to someone else it is more likely to be a Rudy than a Newt.
The Republican establishment AND the base, imho.
