The intent of the law, although not maybe the way it will work out in practice, is to extend protections that have been around forever for phone usage, to the internet.
There are obvious differences in the way the technology works that may make the effort inadvisable, but I'm curious why so many seem to think restriction of "free speech" is just fine over the phone but terrible when applied to the Net.

Anyone who does not believe that the first case brought under this law will be some totally liberal total jerk, being "annoyed" by some conservative(s), would have to be a total idiot.
