I was really distressed in church this week when the pastor mentioned the "suffering of the Palestinians", in connection with Christians standing up for the poor and afflicted in the world. It was something like, the pastor and his wife made a trip to the Mideast several years ago where they saw the despair in the faces of the Palestinian people.

Of course, not a word about the despair in Jewish faces after another suicide bombing. Nothing about the corruption of the Palestinian leaders and the Arab world who keep the Palis in subjugation for political purposes. In other words, the bias made me ill. And the pastor probably wasn't even aware that he was showing bias.

Cut the pastor some slack. He or she may have just been trying to toe the party line and stay in good standing with the denominational leadership. If you underestimate how much pressure the leadership is willing to put on pastors, you need to review what just happened at First Presbyterian, Hollywood (CA).

"I was really distressed in church this week when the pastor mentioned the "suffering of the Palestinians",..."

They can't be suffering since, like the remaining 99.99999% of humanity they're not God's "chosen people."

Of course, you could always ask the good pastor why the oil rich Arabs brethren don't take care of their suffering Palestinian cousins.

You know, the importance of alms and such.

Ask him why the Palestinians still live in the same refugee camps they were in 1948.

Ask them why they are so poor after years of Western support of the Palis.

Ask him what Arafat did with all the money.

Oh yeah,by all means, ask him.

. . .where they saw the despair in the faces of the Palestinian people

Those palis are in despair because of the intense hatred of Israel's arab neighbors. When they attacked in 1948, they told the arabs living in Israel, "get out, we're coming in." The israel-arabs have been kept in camps since then and used as a breeding ground for terrorists and blame the camps on the Israelis

i totally understand your distress- unfortunately most mainline denominations are pro-palestinian, probably because they believe that the church has literally replaced Israel as God's chosen people- my pastor told me that most of the large seminaries also teach this view now - just so you know, evangelical churches tend to be more pro-Israel

"hen the pastor mentioned the "suffering of the Palestinians",

Does your pastor have sympathy for other liberal causes? I would guess (without knowing) that he does. If your other church members have the pastor's beliefs, I would find a different church quickly.
If your church body feels as you do, your pastor needs to find a different, more liberal church.
It seems that many mainline Protestant churches have chosen the liberal route. The route where the Ten Commandments have been renamed "the Ten Suggestions"

Tell your minister to read the Bible. I am having to reread one of the Books, because stupid me I didn't right down the scripture. BUT, The Jews are the only group (ethnic?) that GOD states WILL be in his Kingdom. Period. Maybe that is why so many get their rocks off at killing Jews. Spitting in the face of God kind of stuff.
