Cisneros Probe Stirred Worries Of Democrats

WASHINGTON - A long-awaited report detailing an independent counsel investigation of a former secretary of housing and urban development, Henry Cisneros, outlines a coordinated effort by Clinton administration officials to first block and then limit the probe as a way of taking pressure off an administration that was already beset by scandals.

The report, by independent counsel David Barrett, is scheduled for release on January 19. Details of it have been disclosed to The New York Sun by persons familiar with its contents.

The release of the report coincides with the end of an investigation that began in 1995 with Mr. Barrett examining events surrounding Mr. Cisneros's nomination. During his FBI background check, Mr. Cisneros lied about adulterous relations, his payments to a mistress, the extent of his income, and his tax filings with the Internal Revenue Service.

Mr. Cisneros, a former San Antonio mayor, eventually pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of lying to the FBI. He paid a $10,000 fine and was pardoned by President Clinton on Mr. Clinton's final day in office.

Democrats have complained about the length and expense of Mr. Barrett's investigation, which cost more than $23 million when it closed this month. The report, excluding appendixes, runs to 428 pages. In it, Mr. Barrett is said to argue that Mr. Cisneros's mistress delayed the first half of the investigation by lying to a grand jury that was reviewing evidence in the case and that the second half was impeded by top Clinton administration officials.

Hugging the copier and using it as a desk could cause a disruption in your FReping, other then that, I see no reason not to go for it. Maybe they will turn the heat on earlier.

No disruption, I have wireless. It is harder to type while sprawled over the copier, but I am sure I can manage. LOL!

Being one who hates to be cold, I say go for it. I have confidence in you! :) Did you read or see Schumer on FNS yesterday? Wallace busted him pretty good. I read it, did not see it.

I am sitting in my house wearing a sweat shirt, hat and Viking kitty but I am still cold. :) Perhaps I should have some tea. I am not going to turn up the heat.

Brave or cheap? :) The mercury will be climbing throughout the day, it will be close to 40 later. I could get off my butt and do some laundry, the dryer will warm the place up.

From Mark's Blog on NRO!

Mr. Kennedy said the nomination process, and particularly the hearings, had "turned into a political campaign," and that the White House had proved increasingly skilled in turning that to its advantage.

"These issues are so sophisticated - half the Senate didn't know what the unitary presidency was, let alone the people of Boston," he said, referring to one of the legal theories that was a major focus of the hearings. "I'm sure we could have done better."

"But what has happened is that this has turned into a political campaign," he said. "The whole process has become so politicized that I think the American people walk away more confused about the way these people stand."

You will never hear or read the full report and the truth will never be aired.Remember both Clintons are lawyers and they belong to that fraternity. The Clintons took hundreds of lawyers with them to DC and are always surrounded by lawyers. The one common denominator in all their corruption and the corruption in DC is attorneys and remember they police themselves and have total control of all illegalities in America. For info purposes only look in opensecrets.com and see where and how much the ABA donates to politics. In my opinion the Judicial System is the most corrupt of the three branches of government simply because they are the ones who totally the legal system.

I hope you are wrong about this report, but I fear you aren't. At the very least there needs to be an outcry about this report not becoming public since we taxpayers paid for it. The public needs to know the lengths the democrats are going through to obstruct it seeing the light of day.

Bush should use his bully pulpit and speak up about this illegal travesty, IMO. The press would then have no choice but to cover the story.

Yes! Let's make it more widely known to the public about more of the sneaky, sell-outs, made during the Clinton Presidency. Then they'll see why we have the troubles of today...

The 100 pages of redacted material is cause enough to make the RATS worried. Now, even if we do not have exact knowledge of the material, we can adopt a scenario from the RAT play book. Goes like this, what are you trying to hide? Then we can just suggest all kinds of stuff that it might be. After all, isn't that what the RATS do? Only thing, we will probably be right.

I have this strange feeling that if the Abramoff scandal starts to hurt Repubs substantially then this report will be leaked to the media almost immediately.

For reasons unknown to me Bush will not take a stand or address anything when it comes to the Clintons when they were in the WhiteHouse. I think it may have something to do with something Clinton has on his old man while he was President but that is more of a guess than anything.
Washington, DC is rife with corruption and it is showing with this deal with the lobbyist and the Republicans but there are only certain things that are allowed to be brought out apparently because they all are involved in one way or the other. The Democrats are fed by other government employees,Unions and the ABA and the Republicans apparently are fed by business but they all get rich off of our back and sell us out at every opportunity. We elect them and the lobbyist and politicians use our own money to brainwash us and buy elections with. The Baby Boomers are going to pay a hell of a price and are in for a real surprise.

I've still don't understand where Cisneros got the money to pay the woman the amounts he did. It would be one thing if he'd been a senior partner in a major law firm, but he came from a poor background and was always a politician. They get paid fairly well, but not that well. Even if his wife were working at a very well paying job she'd certainly miss the amounts he was spending on his mistress from the family budget. Can anyone explain where he was getting the $$$ from?
