Gyllenhaal: More Cash for the Wimp! (Writer Admits That "Bareback Mountain" STINKS)
Slate ^ | January 14, 2006 | Mickey Kaus

That big Oscar nomination would be for Brokeback Mountain--which would be perverse because Gyllenhaal's the fatal problem with the movie. He doesn't seem to have any particular appealing quality that would cause Heath Ledger to carry a torch for him for decades. Gyllenhaal's early-on attempts to charmingly romp in the wilderness fall flat--it wasn't just Meghan Daum's date who was checking his watch in the first half of the film--and in the second half of the film he starts to whine. Big love for Gyllenhaal is supposed to be the motor that drives the movie, but the motor doesn't turn. The film only comes alive when Gyllenaal is dead, and we're left with Heath Ledger in his trailer. ...

BM Actor1: Oh Biff, do you ever have that...
BM Actor2: Not so fresh feeling?
BM Actor1: Yeah, back here
BM Actor2: Well try these, BUTTDAISY SPRING, for that fresh, clean feeling.
BM Sheep Actor3: Also try FOREVERBOINKED SUMMER, for sheep who can't run fast enough from horny, gay actors.

Wearily and for the umpetyumpth time: they're not cowboys, they're sheepherders dagnabit! Everyone knows those guys will get up to anything. That's why they wear those knee high boots. You can take the boy out of the sheep pen but you can't take the sheep pen out of the boy.

And while I'm ranting, let's keep talk about Wyoming to a minimum. It's the last state to live the American lifestyle like it used to be in happier days. So let's not attract the attenion of Nannystaters. Shhhhh!

Bush could stop any further awards in their tracks. If the Prez told a reporter that he just loved Brokeback Mountain, thought it was the best of the year, and dared Hollywood to give it all the Oscars it is nominated for we would never hear about it again.

You got it! Yesterday I was on the internet just going to different sites and came across this one about gossip and hollywood and was just amazed at what those people are like. Now if only 50% of the stuff is true from different souces it makes perfect sense why they feel the need to promote BBM and as you said give the finger to consevatives.

Hollywood is the underbelly - it's probably all true...

I haven't seen it, but you're the first person I've heard say that.

I wouldn't go quoting Mickey Kaus about this movie. He claims the sex scenes aren't sexy because they didn't make him nauseas. I suppose vomiting would indicate that he was sexually satisfied.
He has issues.

The reason I say this besides the fact that I saw it is because The Palistinians kill Israelis and then the Israelis go after the Palistinians and kill the sh!t out of them. I was expecting a horrible left film, but I just did not see it. There are some other discussions of the movie where people said similar things that I did. I just think that MSM really hates Israel and wanted to tarnish this movie.

Absolutely, see Capote. It was made on a shoe string and is richer than any 10 movies I can name with budgets that are 10 times larger. Great screenplay, acting, direction. One of the best I've seen in quite a while.

Mickey Kaus

Um...Actually I can't say enough GOOD things about Mickey Kaus. When I was writing newspaper humor columns back in L.A. I had a phone conversation with him and Mickey was a HUGE fan of my articles. Therefore, I always have fond memories of Mickey. Also I like his articles. Good writing.

I'm just taking about the movie in particular. On other issues, he can be quite amusing.

Who in the world would want to watch a couple of queer cowboy's in the first place?

COWBOYS?? Uh oh! Wait 'till their hosses find out they're being unfaithful. Hi, yo Silver! Away! may look for the next opportunity to kick Hoppy in the gonads.

And Trigger? He was willing to share Roy Rogers with Dale, but these foursomes ain't gonna cut it.

Oh, you say these are sheepherders, not cowboys? Thank goodness. The Duke can rest easy again.

Old Hiyo Silver didn't appreciate my awarding him to Hoppy when everyone knows he's faithful to the Lone Ranger. Let's go, Big Fellow!

oops sorry for the double posting....

Too funny...when I read your first post, I was going to reply "ditto" but thought I'd read the rest of the thread before posting. So, I guess your second post was my intended "ditto!"

All Bareback Mountain is is another recycle of the Same Time Next Year plot, with the gay twist. Sounds like there isn't much reason in the movie for the "next year" part.

Has anyone seen Capote? This is one movie I'd consider seeing (once it makes it to PPV or Starz). I like the actor portraying him and have always considered Capote an interesting character.. I agree, I like Philip Seymour Hoffman. And at least it is a biography on a real character, albeit a very strange one.

Seinfeld made the point about the red ribbon quite hilareously years ago.
