The pastor from Pineville calls it "Rita-wood," stacks of two-by-fours hewn from oak and pine trees that were downed by Hurricane Rita when it tore through southwest Louisiana and east Texas in September.
Garry Jones, an Illinois native who brought his missionary zeal to central Louisiana four years ago, is processing those fallen trees in Texas, then trucking them into Plaquemines Parish to rebuild homes. Jones, founder of ReaLife Ministries, sees the lumber as the Providence-given raw material needed to lift the community from its hurricane woes.

They normally sue and tie this kind if thing up in court long enough for the trees to rot in uslessness.
This will not go unpunished.
Problem is, next winter there will be more hurricanes and storms. I wonder how prepared New Orleans will be.

You don't understand, there are a LOT of trees down. The environazi's don't have a snowball's chance in this. This is a forest industry area.
I don't know but I am kind of tired of the constant wet blanket negative crap. That is why I posted a GOOD NEWS story. These people in that area are probably workers in the oil field or fishermen. Buras is not in New Orleans. It's a whole different world, culture and lifestyle.
Go get a map and learn your geography. Buras is not located in New Orleans. It's not even in Orleans Parish.

I was supporting the Ritawood efforts in general and specifically and it IS a good thing.
But I was meandering from the main point of the article, God forgive me for my sins, and JUST WONDERING about New Orleans. Mea culpa!

I posted a news article. One that is the heart of conservatism. You know the private sector providing a much better alternative to the $59,000 FEMA travel trailer. I mean, the ministry is simply using the resources available, they are recycling tons and tons of fallen trees, building safe and sturdy housing for $10,000, and not charging a penny to the taxpayer.
As far as news goes, I want the whole truth, not just the filtered news that comes from the media. I happen to live in the Rita direct impact zone and know that what you read in the news isn't exactly what is going on. I have friends and family in New Orleans area and they tell me a whole different story than what you hear even on FR.
When responding to a post of mine, remove my name then I won't read your post. Come to think of it, maybe I am at the wrong site. This isn't really a conservative site at heart anymore.

You're right I'm afraid and it's a real shame. This site is so full of hate and venom anymore that it seems to have become more a contest of who can be the most mean spirited, cold hearted poster and not who can discuss and further the conservative issues that we all care about in a reasonable, respectful manner. A lot of the posters here lately, not all mind you, are playing right into the stereotypes that democrats and liberals have of conservatives, that being that we are all a bunch of mean spirited, heartless neanderthals and that is NOT what conservatives are.
Many of the posts here about self reliance and self sufficiency are things that I agree with but these thoughts could be posted and discussed without all the name calling and venom that is in so many of the posts. Also, I've said this before and I will always believe that a lot of the posters just have no idea how bad and widespread the destruction was and that it certainly is not going to be an easy, quick fix. It is not as simple as getting your insurance check and rebuilding your house.
I am honestly surprised at the depth of hate and venom for a natural disaster. We all know that there were mistakes and that we witnessed the fruits of liberalism in Katrina. that is why we need to focus on that issue in order to win over the fence straddlers, however, if those who straddle the fence see the venom across the board as has been expressed here they will be turned off and vote accordingly.
ALL trees are owned by someone. If by a Government enity, then proper bidding will have to take place to harvest in accordance to local/state laws.
Many tree trimming business by contract, salvage (harvest) the trees they are removing and sell the raw material where they make the best money. In the Piney Woods, I expect that they will collect and truck to the saw mills.
The timber companies did salvage as many trees as they could on their own property. This is the extras that people didn't know what to do with. For example, my cousin had 5 acres of mature oaks and pines and the cheapest route to clear her land was to allow an independent logger salvage the trees for him to sell at whatever price he could get. Otherwise, it would have cost her a fortune. Believe me there are a lot of similar stories.
