I wanted to post some pictures from today's (well, technically yesterday's) 'March for Life' in DC.

Just before the March began...

Here is some evidence that Alito's Legacy is alive and well at Princeton!

Let the record show 'The eye of Ted Turner' (the enemy) was witness to this event -- But expect from CNN a twisted story (if any)...

The March is starting now (well, it was starting to move from where I was anyways)...

A guy in front of me had this message scrawled on the back of his sign...

This next photo's my favorite...She's the next generation! So many families were there. (I'm not a great photographer, but I think it could make a good cover for a pro-life magazine...maybe?) Adorable!

Some more 'in-march' photos...We were quite packed. The first one is looking frontwards up Capitol Hill. The next one looking behind...

Lot of Christian and other religious folk (Jewish etc). Here's an Orthodox Christian group who were lined up for a photo as I passed...

Overturning Roe leaves abortion regulation up to the states. I don't think one state will outlaw first trimester abortion outright.

In other words, the status quo for the great number of abortions won't change.

I know parents of good will disagree, but I believe children have a tremendous capacity to understand evil. There are children who have an aversion to blood and they should be told not to look at the graphic pictures, but in general, I've got no problem with children seeing the horror of abortion.

I personally don't like the abortion pictures either....I usually avert my eyes and say a special prayer...

Absolutely wrong. Compare the number of abortions per year pre Roe and post Roe if you want some idea how Roe affected the numbers. Then ask yourself if 140,000 plus second trimester abortions per year is a great number of dead babies. The status quo will change alright, and it will change significantly.

well let me say this, my husband, who is a well respected attorney here in DC, was at the prolife march yesterday with our two teenagers, as he has been for the past half dozen years or so. and i ASSURE you he knows, probably better than you do, the ramifications of overturning Roe v. Wade.

You need to go back thirty years for that last part. It's 2006, not 1973. A whole generation plus of women grew up with abortion on demand, the majority of those abortions have been first trimester abortions.

Tf you think overturning Roe will turn back the culture thirty years, then it's you who are absolutely wrong.

The pro life movement has been stymied and defeated consistently for over thirty years. They continue to argue that abortion should be illegal (and many of us think it should), oblivious to the fact that the consensus opinion in the USA settled that a long time ago, and they lost.

Keep it up. They say the definition on insanity is to continue to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. By that standard, the pro life leadership should have been institutionalized a long time ago.

I am a well respected attorney also, licensed in NY. Your assurance isn't as impressive as you thought.

Which state of the union does he think will outright outlaw first trimester abortions? Does that state have many abortions anyway? Frankly, I don't think any state will do it.

I could be wrong, but in any case that isn't a legal opinion, its an evaluation of the political climate.

Your assurance is appreciated, though misplaced.

The point of the March for Life is to combat the culture of death that is insidious in today's society. It is a mistake to treat prolife people as political/legal naifs.

My comment did come across as flippant and I apologize. Approaching the abortion atrocity as a cultural matter is wise. Approaching it as a legal matter isn't wise, though.

That culture of death is insidiuos and pervasive. I agree with you 100%.

I stopped to watch the March go by, right near the EWTN tent, and it took the March over an hour to pass by!

I told her she could avert her eyes if she say the pictures since they are so disturbing - but that they truly represent what happens. She didn't notice them as she was too busy with the crowd and our group flag.

Great. I hope to be there next year.

You got a bet: I bet that if Roe is overturned, MS would not outlaw first trimester abortions outright (that is, ban all abortions in the first trimester except for the usual exceptions).

And honestly, I'd love to be in a position to lose this bet since it is conditioned on Roe being overturned!

Indeed! I am pro life, don't get me wrong, but as a practical matter I just don't see our culture right now (or anytime soon) supporting an outright ban on first trimester abortions.
