My husband is active duty. There are alot of homosexuals in the military serving, as we speak. There are even gay Marines. Why kick them out? They want to fight and die for their country, that's honorable right?

"What advantage is the military getting by firing brain surgeons at the very time our wounded soldiers aren't receiving the medical care they need?"

Typical Liberal Activist slant/over-embellishment:
Implying that Most (if not All) Military GLBT's serve in Extremely-critical and Difficult-to-Replace key positions....and No other types of personnel to fill such posts.

The economic argument is rather stupid. How much does it cost to train someone who becomes a drug addict? A traitor? A murderer? If it costs a lot, shouldn't we simply keep them in?

Being an avowed homosexual is against military orders. You can be a flaming, limp-wristed fag and know one cares. You just can't be one in the military. Is this discrimination? Sure it is. But the military discriminates every day. You can't be overweight, or substantially handicapped. You can't be deaf or blind. You can't have a chronic desease. You can't be too old. AND you can't be gay.

Just a guess here -- but, when you start "telling" you make it an on the job issue. Keep it to yourself.

charge them for their education. They knew the rules when they went in, got a free edumacation, then outed themselves to get out of the military.

make them pay

With so many ex-military and family members of military on this thread, it seems like a great venue to thank you all for your service and our freedoms. Thank you.

More Don't AsSk, Don't Tell:
We don't have to ask when, at grenade practice you are proud of the fact the Drill Sergent says you throw like a girl.

We can tell when, the only reason you don't want to go to Iraq is that the desert cammies don't match your Gucci bag.

And, we don't have to ask, we can tell when, you volunteered to blow Revelle in the morning and was disappointed when they gave you a bugle.

The 350 or so affected are a tiny fraction of the 1.4 million members of the uniformed services and about 3.5 percent of the more than 10,000 people discharged under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy since its inception in 1994.

Probably half that number used the program as a way to get
out of their enlistment or commitment. Just as some women
get pregnant to get a quick early out.

That's the Admin separation of "I don't want to go to Turkey,
I'll just tell them I'm gay."

As was pointed out earlier in this thread, this is a law passed by Congress. Folks can vent all they want at the Pentagon but they're only doing what they're told. It's true the military can influence Congress in that decision by saying a different policy would hurt their effectiveness. If so, can we blame Congress for listening to the people whose lives are on the line?

/FLAME ON

Our military should be used to win wars. It should not be a culture dish for social experiments. Nor should it be forcing heterosexual men to change who they are or how they feel so 1-2% of the population can exercise another invented "right". As others have brought up, there are some analogies to women serving alongside men. Just because that (somewhat successful) social experiment caused problems isn't an excuse to create others.

The article fails to mention that the discharged are then required to PAY BACK the money.

There is no reason for a homosexual to join other than to be a disruptor. They should not have joined.

The daughter of some American friends of my parents got kicked out of the US Navy for fraternising on board ship with someone of the opposite sex. There are strict regulations on both heterosexual and homosexual relationships in order to maintain discipline. If the gay lobby doesn't like it, well that's just too bloody bad.

Regards, Ivan
