At Least Six Killed In School Bus, Truck Accident

POSTED: 5:02 pm EST January 25, 2006
UPDATED: 5:17 pm EST January 25, 2006

At least six people have been killed and several are injured in a school bus and truck accident in Union County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP Officer Ron Cooper said an unspecified number of students were among those killed and several students have been taken to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

The bus was operated by the Union County school district, which has three schools from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, district official Anita Andrews said. She had no other information.

The accident occurred about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, about four miles south of Lake Butler. Lake Butler is about 56 miles southwest of Jacksonville.

That's one county north of here and I work in a major hospital with a top level trauma department. I'm just a transcriber (and not for pediatrics), but it's going to be a busy night here.

Admin/sidebar moderator moved from "Breaking", probably because original post did not have link.

Prayers going out from Duval county.Local TV says a semi tractor trailer rear ended a van which was stopped for a school bus which was letting kids out.
Currently local news is saying all the dead were in the stopped van and no students, but this is still a breaking atory as of 5:30 local EST.

Prayers are being offered for the families of the children, and the drivers of the bus and the truck. Dear God, I don't know what else to say. This is too tragic to express my feelings.
