If the populist, protect borders, protect manufacturing job, etc. movement wants to gain any traction, they need to dump Jihad Pat.

I've never liked him myself. Hasn't he claimed for years that the holocaust never happened?

There's a slight ethical problem, wouldn't you say? Using taxpayer money to fund killers, is immoral.

I don't want to gloat, but I've never liked him. But I have known a lot of other people who are in the same boat as you -- they've defended him for years and I wonder what they have to say now.

Pat's hatred for Israel/Jews has all but completely rotted his brain and now dominates whatever thought process he can muster.

Pat actually makes sense most of the time, and is even, on occasion, brilliant when he sticks to domestic political issues and some of that inside the Beltway type stuff.

He's like my cat after a dose of catnip on foreign policy. Wild-eyed, and running into the walls.

We supported a democratic election. The people spoke and elected Hamas. Our support of an election on democratic principles should not be linked to foreign aid whether we support the winning entity or not.

Hamas is a purveyor of terror. It is in it's charter. It deserves NO funding from the United States.

The United States fosters democracy around the world through elections and a peaceful transfer of power. Buchanan is wrong on this.

We do not need to appear to be rejecting a democratically elected government, do we?

Yes, we do. We need to reject and be seen to reject a murderous democratically elected government. Hamas, the Third Reich...

Translation: "I oppose foreign aid, unless it's being given to Jew-killers. Then I demand it."

Perfect summation of Pat's position.

"I must confess his reasoning is appealing. I hope rather than savage his suggestion we consider it seriously. We do not need to appear to be rejecting a democratically elected government, do we?"

Take your logical question elsewhere. This is a Bash Buchanan thread.

This is about the time I lost it for Pat. He is not disciplined enough to have the temperment for leadership.

Neoconservatives see the world as they wish it to be, not as it is. Like teenagers, they act on impulse and rail against the counsel of experience. "Often clever, never wise," Russell Kirk said of the breed.

Three years later, we are trying to extricate a U.S. army from Iraq with the least possible damage to U.S. security interests.

Again, he and Condi were warned that if these people were allowed to vote their convictions, they might just vote to throw us out and throw the Israelis into the sea.

Now that elections have been held, what do the returns show?

Propelled into or toward power have been Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran, pro-Iranian Shiite zealots in Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, and Hamas in Gaza and on the West Bank.

Bush has unleashed a revolution in the Middle East, and it is everywhere bringing to power Islamic fundamentalists. Either we deal with them, or fight them or get out of the Middle East.

It was hilarious to watch him stumble and bumble about "democracies" in the aftermath of the election.

As always, Pat gets it right.

Go Pat Go!

Is it bitterness or insanity, or a combination of the two that drives this man? He is really and truly bizarre. He should seek counsel (for the head).

Given the fact that you or I would go to jail for funding Hamas, it enters the legal realm.
