SAN FRANCISCO – The American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California on Wednesday filed a request for information about alleged government spying during student-led protests at two universities.

The Freedom of Information Act request was filed with the government on behalf of UC Santa Cruz Students Against the War and Berkeley Stop the War Coalition at the University of California, Berkeley, according to Dorothy Ehrlich, executive director of the ACLU-Northern California.

Documents pertaining to an ongoing investigation are exempted under FOIA. The USG is not required to create documents in order to respond to FOIA requests, either.

For the reason you stated, I hope there is an active investigation.

Since ANSWER, one of the players associated with the "peace movement" has Hamas as a member - take a look at the protests in DC & San Fran - it seems to me that someone should be watching this.

I also wonder how you spy on a protest in public?

"... We're being seen as serious opposition."

No dear, your seen as a threat. Which anti-military protesters such as yourself are. Not only to our national security but also to the moral of our troops. So, pop that cranium on out of that rectum and return to what is commonly known as reality.

This "complaint" by the ususal suspects reminds me entirely too much of the "public lactation" arguments, pro and con.

How many women publically breastfeeding are ending up on some pornie's website? eh?

The argument from ACLU et al, is just too "resemblematic".

Many members of Free Republic oppose George Bush's immigration proposals. What if the FBI kept photogrographs and information on them if they protested against them?

So... you are equating known groups who sympathize, openly, expressly with the terrorists.... to Freepers who disagree with President Bush's Immigration proposals?

riiiight.

And What's on Second.

You posed a hypothetical. Second, in re your "hypothetical", there's no reason at all to not suspect that a private citizen filmed the protest and gave it to the Dept.

Liberals love to see themselves on prime-time.
