WASHINGTON (AFP) - U2 frontman Bono, quoting the Koran, the Bible and rock band Dire Straits, urged President George W. Bush to boost US aid to the world's poor by some 25 billion dollars.

"This is not about charity, it's about justice," the singer and activist told the annual US national prayer breakfast, which included Bush, members of Congress, and Muslim, Christian, and Jewish leaders.
"That's too bad, because we're good at charity," he said. "But justice is a higher standard. Africa makes a fool of our idea of justice it makes a farce of our idea of equality."
"There's no way we can look at what's happening in Africa and, if we're honest, conclude that, deep down, we would let it happen anywhere else," said the rock star, a champion of funding to fight AIDS and famine worldwide.

Practice what you preach! Contribute at least 50% of YOUR total wealth towards eliminating poverty in Africa - and then maybe we'll talk.
So, Bono, do you advocate sending in troops to throw out the thugs and kleptocrats? Because reform is what's needed, not more money for Swiss bank accounts.
We already give billions, and more. For once, instead of just asking for "more", I'd like one of these people to tell us just how much more would satisfy them. I have a feeling they won't, because they can't.
When Bono began to discuss giving and the tithe, then he linked the American economic figures, I was ready for Bono's nutcase connection to another "soak the rich" version of the Democratic/Socialist nonsense.
I was proud of the President, who, when he finally was allowed to the microphone, that the "greatness of America was not in our wealth but in the generosity and kindness of it's people."
I don't think President Bush has a net worth of 25 billion dollars. Oh! You mean you want 25 billion including my money. That's right! You're a lib and believe that everyone should pay but you. </sarcasm to Bono>
