"Please, I know far too well that people will try and play caricatures of conservatives to gain points on whatever DU ripoff site they frequent."

Been observant then.

" I don't feel any need to defend my conservativism to anyone, and I take it as personal insult when people question it because I happen to disagree with another conservative."

Then you will feel mightily insulted here on FR often.

NCIS is about the only network show that I watch with regularity. I think the writing isn't bad and the stories are interesting.

Stupid movies, high cost of tickets, high costs of popcorn and $5 soft drinks.

And still 9% go see movies?

Either this economy is doing very well or some people just dont have cable!

"From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli..."

Both of which took place prior to 1775.

Negative.

The "Halls of Montezuma" is a reference to the Mexican War, 1845, (70 years after 1775).

"The Shores of Tripoli" is a reference to the Barbary Pirate campaign, 1805, 30 years post-1775.

And I ain't even a Marine.

...Brokeback Mountain, a movie about gay sheepherders...

LMAO! I had no idea they were sheepherders. A little irony there whether intended or not.

I think Hollywood needs to replace their CEO's and find some good wholesome capitalist...someone who knows how to make money and entertain us again. Americans would be happy to go again if there was anything intelligent to see. It's all vulgar, boring and preachy...*yawn*

Surely they see they are losing money, and don't call me Shirley.

The original article was absolutely nothing like what I've been advocating - the only points we share are that:

1) Hollywood is at odds with the majority of America

2) Box office returns have been steadily falling because of this

Her argument was some vague combination of futile rage against "liberals" who control Hollywood, and a sizeable dose of what was essentially whining about more mainstream views not getting mentioned.

Compare that to my position, which places the blame only in part on the liberal concensus which governs Hollywood - but more importantly, where the money lies. Hollywood's liberalism doesn't magically create money out of box office flops, as she somehow ignores - it gets money from backers who appreciate its product, even if the majority of movie-goers do not.

More importantly, I presented a solution to the problem, as opposed to simply griping about it - and one which has been proven to work in formerly liberal-only world of major media.

Save your flip-flops for Mr Kerry's inevitable run for the democrat nomination.

I'll admit when I'm wrong - I knew those dates, but it didn't parse that they were post-1775. In any case, the USMC was in operation prior to 1775, though not under the USMC (at the time, Continental Marines) banner; the official recognition and formation into a coherant and centrally directed fighting force took place after many had already been fighting under different banners but performing similar missions.

End of story. The rest is entertainment. Keep 'em coming. :-)

Rachel Weisz won best supporting actress for her work in The Constant Gardener, a LeCarre take on the evils of Big Pharmaceutical

And this is a bad thing? (not the actress, the subject of the movie)

End of story? But then how do you explain how they have been able to keep making movies? Why do you ignore all of the monied interests at play in Hollywood? Moreover, why is Hollywood at odds with America? They didn't used to be - Ronald Reagan was a Hollywood actor, after all.

The "end" of your story leaves some of the most important questions unanswered.

You have quite an effete know-it-all writing style to pass as a conservative. I'm guessing that your not.

You can always tell a lefty....

But you can't tell them much...

I sure hope not. Dick Cheney is my hero and I'd like to think that's what Wyoming men are really like.
