Vanity: Jimmy Kimmel "cartoon joke" Censored? (just on my ABC affiliate?)
ABC local station | 2-7-06 | self (VOA)

Posted on 02/07/2006 10:16:08 PM PST by VOA

I was catching the opening monologue on The Jimmy Kimmel Show tonight.
He'd just had a segment on Britney Spear's baby-without-a-baby-seat and
he was mentioning the continued rioting over "the cartoons" when...
A commercial for "Everybody Loves Raymond" abruptly interrupts, followed
by a commercail for a local realtor. Then those are over...
and immediately the Jimmy Kimmel feed returns, on the topic
of an obese boy being visited by Richard Simmons.

What I presume was a joke about "the cartoons" simply vanished into the ether.

Maybe I'm being too conspiratorial, but did this happen to anyone else?
If you did watch at least the opening monologue, please let me know
if there was actually a "cartoons" joke.

OK, OK, so I should have written "Britney Spears' baby".

But Kimmel did have a pretty good like about here "child endangerment" case:
"So this means Kevin Federline is the good parent?"

Jimmy Kimmel rocks. ....he's a great comedian. He appeals to the Gen X crowd.

Jerry Lewis appeals to the French. From which we deduce what?

I'm sorry, but we're light-years apart on Kimmel. Generation gaps don't get it as an explanation, either -- as I pointed out, he's straight out of Letterman's school, and Letterman is certified Grade-A Boomer. And he's a smartass, too.

Letterman and Kimmel are a little bit like Carson was in that respect -- the aura of "cool" is what they work for. Carson was smooth enough to pull it off; Letterman is practiced enough that he can make it work when he isn't showing his butt-crack by beating up on someone like Teri Garr or Connie Chung. (He started that crap with Drew Barrymore and she nailed him, though -- she jumped up on his desk and flashed him -- way to go, Drew! [Trollop! Hussy!]) I don't like Letterman when he tries to use his intelligence to strip people naked -- even when he does it (successfully) to Madonna. The most recent guest I've seen him pull that with was Kate Beckinsale, who's got more class drunk on her butt than Letterman does attending a funeral stone-sober. He also showed it when he kissed up to Oprah that time. Kissing up or piddling down, at the end of the day the boy has no class.

Kimmel's like a younger, Gen-X Letterman. 'Nuff said.

Sorry 'bout that.

The joke with the protest signs ran last night in LA without interruption. I'll check tonight. Also, I get the network feed repeated tomorrow at 11am (I work like a dog for the mouse) so I'll check that.

JK is funny, I think, but his best contribution to society is from the "Man Show" and it's this: "Girls jumping on trampolines"

I remember when my wife turned to me and asked..."why?...." and I explained that it's because, there are girls...and...they're jumping...on trampolines! That cleared it right up for her.

VOA, you missed a funny sequence. Kimmel was at his best trashing the Muslims...something like, "People in those countries have no freedom of the press and therefore have no sense of parody. Besides, they're very crazy." Meanwhile, footage is shown of Muslims rioting, trashing buildings, carrying all kinds of banners including Down With Family Circus. I don't have a clue what Family Circus is, so I'm afraid that part went over my head........

Mostly Goofy. It's the mandatory singing when walking down the aisles that's rough.

great comedian.....??

I hardly think so. Kimmel is another lamer with no talent. IMO, Howie Long also sucks big time. Get real! These people are not funny.

Kimmel and the other guy did do a lot of funny bits on the Man Show. They did one bit where they went out on the street and set up a booth to "end women*s "suffrage"(my quotes). And of course all sorts of women eagerly put their names down on a petition to end the right of women to vote. Eventually one skeptical female called attention to the word suffrage and deduced that it was not about ending womens suffering. But they got a lot of signatures before they were found out. In my opinion Kimmel is mostly a smart-ass but a smart-ass who can be pretty funny at times.

I don't have a clue what Family Circus is, so I'm afraid that part went over my head........

"Family Circus", drawn by cartoonist Bill Keane has been a certified American institution in newspapers for most of my life, and I'm 50. It's very Norman Rockwell in character, as uncontroversial, as leftists define controversy, as you can find...

which cause me to fly across the room to change channels whenever I hear it

You know, they invented this thing called the "remote control" some time back. Might be time to trade in the old DuMont for a Zenith Space Command. :-)

I don't have a clue what Family Circus is, so I'm afraid that part went over my head........

It's about the most inoffensive cartoon ever drawn - mildly cute family-oriented humor with focus on "kids say the darndest things" type lines.

Actually, this one is a little Zenith 13" color w/o remote. Got it as a stopgap while the big TV's down.

Atlanta ABC affiliate doesn't play Jimmy Kimmel's show at all.

However, yesterday on Brit Humes' Special Report, they ended the show with a replay of Kimmel's bit on the Arab street up in arms (literally) because of a cartoon. They cut to photoshop images of Muslims holding signs declaring "Marmaduke isn't funny".
