WALTER REED FReep, Week 42, Feb 3 (Uncle Sam Needs You Feb 10!)
DC Chapter, Free Republic | February 9, 2006 | Albion Wilde

Posted on 02/09/2006 1:46:27 PM PST by Albion Wilde

WASHINGTON, DC, Feb. 3, 2006—Last week's FReep was the third in our newly captured territory—all four corners of Walter Reed Army hospital's main gate—the DC Chapter having outsmarted Code Pink in mid-January, when after 40 weeks of counterprostests, the DC Chapters of FreeRepublic and Protest Warrior finally drove the Pinko womyn and associated quislings away from the gates. Our side, supporters of the troops and the mission outnumbered by three-to-one the pitiful remnants of Code Pink's newly-relocated "vigil" 'way down the block—they are out of our brave heroes' faces now!

What's even better is that many more wounded troops and their wives, parents or supportive friends now come out of the hospital, whether on foot, on crutches or in wheelchairs, to stand with us against domestic enemies. Passing cars and trucks now serenade us all evening long, beeping in support and high-fiving out the windows. No wonder the libmedia stays away—the joy and fervor of the support we receive gives them the big, fat lie.

Especially touching is the sight of newly wounded servicemen or women arriving by ambulance or helicopter. Some have reported that they could see us out the window as they arrived, and it gave the wounded comfort knowing they would not to have to pass by the anti-war ghouls' messages alone.

We've won the battle for strategic territory at Walter Reed; but the war's not over. We need to keep FReeper numbers strong, to defend the gates of Walter Reed from re-encroachment by anti-war socialists.

Our usual correspondent, BillF, is having a computer melt-down this week. BillF will post a complete report with photos and the attendance list of last week's FReep in coming days, but for now, he has asked me to remind all FReepers and lurkers within driving distance of northern Washington, DC, to...

Come out and support our troops
this Friday, Feb. 10,

at Walter Reed Army Medical Center,
6900 Georgia Avenue at Elder Street NW.

We set up at 6:45 and order pizza for those interested.
Hot drinks are available on NE corner.
Closest Metro stops: Silver Spring or Takoma Park.
Parking on nearby residential streets East of Georgia Avenue.

Our troops have given so much for our freedom!
Come and cheer them and their families!

We had a great conversation with two of our soldiers from Kentucky. Bill and Wes. You have probably already met them. Both are being medically retired. In fact, Bill goes home today. He may be home already.
Bill is a veteran of the Gulf War, Bosnia and Afghanistan.
He then volunteered to go to Iraq. Amazing.
Wes said he would go back in a minute if he could. Fine young man.
Both were in great spirits though it's pretty obvious that they're tired of being in the hospital.
Meeting folks like these is what it's all about.

Good luck with those hoagies tonight!! You're the MAN!!

Thanks, but that was a group effort. Those went over VERY well. Started with 164, two hours later only a dozen were left. Shortly after that those were gone.

Thanks for sharing part of your experience for those who couldn't make it. I hope to get over whatever I've got and be back for next week.

I always smile when I recall her remark to Johnny Carson one night after he complimented her on her dress: "It takes alot of money to look this cheap!".

OH yeah!!!
It was Bill's last night at Walter Reed, and we sent him home with a flourish.
Free beers at our favorite establishment, and then on to Smitty's duty station.
I've found my favorite hang out.
Freepmail on the way.

Get well soon! You should also know that the tall soldier Kevin, who has visited us before in his wheelchair, was up walking around with us this week! That was so cool!

To the best of my knowledge. Although he was virtually a different man in finely tailored pinstripes before the event, as soon as the FReep began, he was very much on the case, in appropriate insulated streetwear, interviewing FReepers and making notes.

Yes, a good Freeper who has provided many fine picture for the WRAMC after action reports discussed it. And after I saw he was using it I thought I would emulate him as a means of high flattery.

I was also a tall soldier (2m), in fact, whenever it was raining while we marched, my platoon would thank me for "volunteering" to accept any lightning that came our way! God bless you, Kevin, glad to hear you're walking tall again!!!
