A Florida city has barred three paintings from a city hall display celebrating Black History Month because they contain small references to the Christian faith. Officials at the city of Deltona, Fla., say hanging the colorful photos by artist Lloyd Marcus would be tantamount to the town favoring a specific religion. Marcus' paintings were to be part of an employee-organized display in the lobby of Deltona City Hall, but acting city manager Roland Blossom nixed the art, reported the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Someone tell Bush about this. Maybe it will get him angry enough to trash the ACLU for once. Nothing else has.
I looked at the paintings. This is a stupid decision. Christianity is part of the life of America. You can't censor art just because it contains references to Christianity.
I don't know...books with "Oly" on the cover are scary.
ACLU-Destroy-every-last-vestige-of-Christianity bump...
Of course if it were a crucifix in urine or a Madonna with elephant dung, it would be the central focus of the exhibit...
Yeah...and why is it OK for artists to display works that insult the Christian faith in "public," taxpayer-funded museums, while this is not appropriate?
As long as it is 'anti-christian' then it's alright./sarc
They are not idiots. They run a small town. The ACLU has convinced them that they will be sued using up some of their finite resources.
So rather than have the expense of defending a suit from the ACLU, they err on the side of caution.
The only way to counter-balance this is to personally sue every time a local government discrimminates against religion or give money to say the ACLJ so they can sue in more of such cases. Once the financial pressure is equal on both sides, local governments will go back to making common sense decisions about such matters.

i kind of liked the law proposed to ban abortion of a baby if DNA testing showed it would turn out that person would be gay.
now that would have been fun.
There are no Floridians in Florida anymore. They've been run out.
God-hating insanity.
I don't run!
If you're running an art exhibit and you refuse to display any works inspired by religion -- specifically Christianity -- then here's a partial list of works you're going to have to forego:
Michaelangelo's "David"
Da Vinci's "Last Supper"
The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel
Carravagio's "Conversion on the Way to Damascus", "Taking of Christ", and "Sacrifice of Issac"
Titian's "St. John the Evangelist", "Assumption of the Virgin", and "Resurrection of Christ"
Donatello's Cavalcanti Annunciation and his "Magdalena in Penitence"
Then there's Brunellschi, Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Tintoretto, El Greco, Rembrandt, Breugel, Bosch, Albrecht Durer, the van Eycks, Velasquez, Rossetti, Francis Bacon, and probably one or two I left out.
But I'm sure you can find someone to throw feces on a tablecloth for you ...
I agree. This is going too far.
