VOTERS OVER THE HILL (Clinton's support hits rock bottom)
NY POST ^ | February 12, 2006 | IAN BISHOP, Post Correspondent

Posted on 02/12/2006 3:54:14 AM PST by Liz

The GOP is seeing the first signs that it's made some nicks in Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's political armor in a new poll that shows her support dropping dramatically.

RasmussenReports.com surveyed Clinton's presidential hopes every two weeks over the last year.....found that support for her presidential ambitions has hit rock bottom............

Now just 27 percent say they'd definitely vote for her — down seven points from the start of the year — and 43 percent say there's no way they'd cast a ballot for her, an eight-point uptick in the past month.

Pollster Scott Rasmussen, who accurately forecast the outcome of the 2004 White House race, said Clinton's support has plummeted among men and party faithful.

This poll is the latest in a trend of weakening support for her White House hopes. She now has a 47 percent unfavorable rating, and 45 percent of respondents say she's a political liberal.

Those are the two key points GOP strategists are aiming to expand in the eyes of voters in America's heartland —the Midwestern states that will likely swing the election in 2008.

"As 2008 gets closer, she'll have to go to the left to win. We'll try to roll her further in that direction," one GOPer told The Post. "She's been talking moderate, but she has a liberal voting record — and we'll point that out and why she's trying to hide from it."

That would have been more possible back before the rise of the Internet. I am not convinced that play will work in today's informational reality.

IMO, Hillary's worst attribute is the one she is hoping to capitalize upon: her gender. Just how is a female POTUS going to deal with the misogynists in Iran and the rest of the Muslim world? When Schroeder praised her candidacy to an audience in Saudi Arabia, did anyone in the Arab world wonder why, if they think Hillary will be such a great leader for America, their own females are not allowed to participate in everyday life, let alone politics. I know my own reaction was that they think she will be weak and can be bought.

I think the best she can hope for is 40% positives, while retaining her 46% negatives. If the Progressives split off to form a third party, she and the left are out of the game for the foreseeable future.

Anything that's happening to the Beestie's "popularity" (term used so loosely, it's about to slide off the page) is entirely her own doing. And will continue to be as such.

I don't believe the GOP has done much of anything to facilitate this.

Too easy to shoot down. If she had really wanted to be president, if her husband REALLY wanted it, he would have advised her to go for the governorship of one of the states. As a senator, she has too much baggage and makes much to easy a target. Very few presidents have ever been elected from the senate for that very reason.

IMHO, Bubba knew that and that's why she's now a senator instead of governor of a purple state. He never wanted her to be president and the poor silly woman didn't figure it out. Instead, she allowed him to torpedo her only chance.

A strong thrid party canidate and we have Hillary in the white house ala Bill Clinton with 46%of the vote Yes, and we have many on this website that feel there are NO Republicans who are worthy of their vote.

I despise McCain and a whole bunch of the other Rs running but I'll vote for them if they're our nominee.

I'll fight like heck to get the most conservative candidate we can get through the primary process.

Allen may be our best bet.

With these new polling numbers, she'll drag Bill all over the country to prop herself up. Maybe she could get an inflatable Bill Clinton doll to use, instead.

"A couple years back I'd have agreed with you. No longer. The dwindling power of the old media is precisely why hitlery is going nowhere. They can't rescue her from herself, her nasty demeanor and her liberalism, which is contrary to what most voters want."

I understand as well as applaud the MSM dwindling influence. However they are still a force to be reckoned with. Look at the way they formulated public opinion about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. For months the only persons the majority of the public blamed was the federal govt. (ie W Bush). Way to many people can't grasp what I thought was common knowledge that the first responders to any disaster is local govt.

then again the general public has a very short attention span. Nobody is outraged over Katrina anymore, much to the dismay of the political left. They have once again shot themselves in the foot. Jessy Jackson, Sharpton, Belafonte, Jimma Carter, etc cannot understand how continually playing the race card does far more damage than good in the long run. All it accomplishes is it turns the middle-of-the-roaders and fence-straddlers (you know "moderates") off. They turn away in disgust and tune them out.

I think you're correct to a certain extent. In the end I don't believe she'll be the Democratic nominee- I think Al Gore will win that prize- but we are making a mistake if we count her out too soon. I don't go in much for conspiracy theories but we are certainly being setup for the Great Comeback, particularly once she is overwhelmingly reelected to the Senate. Also, the MSM is down but far from out.

""Enter angry John McCain. "

- Although I know a goodly percentage of far right Republicans are against it, I think a ticket of Rice and Rudy would cream any Democratic challenger in 2008. However, the MSM have been stroking and licking McCain's ego for the past two years now in the hopes that he will take the bait and pull a Perot on the Republicans so that the resulting vote split will allow Hitlery to squeeze in up the middle.

Watching the Beltway Boys last night, they had a clip of Hil speaking to the UAW. She shot off the line that "no one takes a back seat to her on terrorism" and you could just see how hard it was for her to keep from screeching. Even Mort said that she never looks happy. This woman has a tough time concealing her rage and like Dean she will explode if given a real challenge.

I met a couple of Attorneys from Little Rock some years ago. They had tried cases against her in court. They thought that she was a good lawyer. But they did not like her. They really had contempt for Slick.
Still, Slick and Hildebeast have morphed into one person. She enabled him to stay in office, and he will use his influence to get her the nomination (most Demos still love Slick). The irony is that many apolitical women might vote for her out of sympathy for the way Slick cheated on her in the Oral Orfice.

"I am getting worried about Hitlerly...I think conservatives should start talking nice about her and encourage dummycraps to nominate her. She will turn out even better for the GOP than that flip-flop pathological liar JFK."

Part of me agrees with you. The other part of me fears that if she managed to get the nomination, she would manage to engineer a win. Not honestly or legally, but by any means necessary. Look how awful Kerry was and how close he came to winning. It would only have taken Ohio to give us this goofball as our president.

She moved rightward, the lefties didn't like it, and the righties didn't believe it.

Right on target. These polls have nothing to do with how the moonbats will vote--they just show the left is not pleased with HRC's fake to the middle.

Given the choice between a leftist faking right and any Republican, they will line up like good cadres on election day and cast three votes each for HRC.

When will all you people realize this woman is nothing but a media creation. Everything she is perceived to be is because of her husband and he was also carried and shielded by the media. Now that the media has lost some of its influence, her warts are beginning to show. The fact is the libs have forgotten how to succeed on their own, without the media cheering for them AND nothing to counter that media influence.

No one likes Hillary. Even the New York Times Modow hates her guts. Quite simply, to the Left she has two strikes against her: 1) her lack of principle and 2) the way she comes as across as unbearable whereas Kerry was merely a dork.
