According to an email received by McCabe from the office of U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), the Marion monument project has already received the blessings of U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R–S.C.) and Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), as well as Congressmen Henry Brown (R–S.C.), Gresham Barrett (R–S.C.), Bob Inglis (R–S.C.), John Spratt (D–S.C.), James Clyburn (D–S.C.), and Wilson. The next step is the actual bill, which McCabe believes, will be introduced in Congress over the coming weeks.

If you saw a historical film about a war where American troops locked the entire population of a town in a church and burned it to the ground, and no such incident or anything remotely like it actually happened in the war, would YOU be mad?

Francis Marion never fought Tarleton. Marion RAN away from Tarleton in the swamps when Tarleton was ordered to catch him, and Tarleton gave up.
Tarleton DID get his ass kicked by Daniel Morgan at Cowpens. Marion wasn't even there.
And Tarelton's unit was comprised of American Loyalists, and wore Green, not Red.
The historical advisors for "The Patriot" made this known to the makers of the movie, who rejected this and other advice on uniforms and put all British forces in Red, on the premise that doing otherwise and having historically accurate uniforms would confuse stupid moviegoers too much.
Movies are a bad place to learn your history from, and "The Patriot" is one of the worst.
Nevertheless, Tarlton was a savage brute, and there is a good reason why the Brits were HATED in this country until WWII (only the Anglophile Wilson and the New England prep-school nancy boys in the state department loved Ol' Blighty).
Francis Marion is a hero, and the Brits (and their loyalist lackeys) were trounced on the battlefield (after early victories) by a bunch of aging veterans of the Seven Years/French and Indian War, and the green farm boys under their command.
It must of been great for the ego of the House of Hanover, to say nothing of the inbred twits in the British high command (Cornwallis, a fine man, being the main exception) to get defeated by an "inferior" adversary, albeit one with assistance from the French.
Nevertheless, I agree that motion pictures, including the Patriot, are a poor place to learn history. It still is a great movie, however, as was Braveheart, although I'm sure the Poms didn't enjoy that one either.
You must really hate the movie "7 years in tibet".
Brad Pitt didn't even realize that the guy he played in the movie was a real life enthusiastic Nazi.
I thought "The Patriot" was cool. As was "Braveheart."
I am halfway through a MA in history. History is always being rewritten to suit the needs of the teller, and the audience.
If the audience needs some thrills, chills and popcorn, well, that's not the end of the world, is it?
Probably 9/10ths of what we know about history, we learned at the movies, be it Robin Hood or Hitler.
