Cheney brings them of the proverbial woodwork, like cockroaches. They cannot resist the opportunity to express their undying hatred of the man. They have to be somewhat discrete about it at FR, but they can't resist even here. Hence, the crocodile tears and disingenuous pleas for people to pray for Whittington. The point isn't to pray for Whittington at all, but to reinforce the bogus claim over and over again that this incident is very nearly akin to murder. The hope is that through repitition people will come to believe it.
to be honest (your post aside, I know you did not intend to impart such a relationship), I fully expect that the media will do that starting tomorrow - in other words, the longer Cheney is seen as "saying nothing", the media will run a story tieing his silence to his fear of "legal jeopardy".

That's IF the man dies. What, are they hoping for that to happen? Is the MSM so full of hate for Bush/Cheney that they would actually hope for a man to die so that Cheney will be on the hot seat? Ample evidence is already available to show that yes, they are.
texas law provides that cases of negligence (alledged) occurring on private property, are above legal scrutiny?
I think most hunters avoid getting caught. As long as you stay off state and federal lands, typically you're OK if you're missing something like that. My game warden friends, who are constantly arresting folks for drugs, use the lack of a license or the lack of a stamp as their probable cause.
It gnaws at me that something that I consider such a fundamental American right is so overly regulated. And it's not local, at least not here. It's state and federal regulation.

Well, I might have known that if you hadn't written of the possibility with such eagerness. Or is it fear? Either way, it's quite unbecoming.
Thus far, the only illegalities is the fact that both men neglected to get some sort of a hunting stamp. It's late, I can't recall the exact document/permit/stamp. I think it cost $7.00.
Because that was just enacted this year. In fact, Cheney paid twice for his $125 license because he already had that license. It was a mistake by the local Texas office, not Cheney, but he took responsibility for it anyway. He paid the $7.
While the state Parks and Wildlife Department issued Cheney a warning for not possessing a required stamp on his hunting license, the sheriff's department said there was "no alcohol or misconduct involved in the incident."
"This department is fully satisfied that this was no more than a hunting accident," the Kenedy County Sheriff's Department said in a statement issued Monday evening.
Armstrong said no one discussed informing the public about the incident until Sunday morning, when she and her mother raised the matter with Cheney. Saturday night, she said, "The only concern we all had was about Harry."
The Secret Service told sheriff's deputies about the accident an hour later, after Whittington was headed for a hospital in Kingsville and the hunting party had returned to the ranch house, he said.
