Hey, some 78 year-olds are old, some aren't. My 80+ year-old uncles are busier and sharper than most of my 40-50ish friends.

I hope Harry is back out in the fields very soon.

Fox has BECOME the MSM.

All except Brit. That's why I'm waiting for his interview WITHOUT running commentary.

Jay Severin is taking the Lawrence O'Donnell line that the reason for the delay was for Cheney to sober up.

Severin sucks, and worse he replaced Laura Ingraham from 7-10 PM on WRKO.

It's a good thing that reporters didn't make it to Mr. Whittington's room. Can't you see what they would write - particularly after they accidentally disconnected some vital piece of medical equipment? /sarc

Cheney takes blame for shooting

Wed Feb 15, 2006 3:02 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney took the blame on Wednesday for accidentally shooting a friend while hunting quail, saying, "I'm the guy who pulled the trigger."

Cheney, under pressure by Republicans to break his silence about the Saturday shooting, told Fox News he still thought he was correct to delay for about 18 hours reporting the wounding of Texas lawyer Harry Whittington to the public because he wanted to ensure the accuracy of what had happened.

"You can talk about all of the other conditions that existed at the time, but that's the bottom line. And it's not Harry's fault. You can't blame anybody else," Cheney said. "Ultimately, I'm the guy who pulled the trigger (and) shot my friend."

Barnes feels that the Associated Press is a more powerful news source than any local paper.

For example, the reporter who had a message left on her voice mail didn't respond "for hours".

Peach - I'm not trying to pick nits, just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I'm glad he said it. This is exactly what the hunters on this forum have been saying for four days. It should have been the 'party line' all along, and I do believe that the effort to make it something other than this (from whatever quarter), and this exactly, is what generated a lot of the attention and a lot of the discord. This kind of statement even makes it hard for the comedians to make hay with it.

From the very beginning, I have worried more about Cheney, because he IS the kind of person that would take this so very hard...

I don't care what Fred or anyone say...about how this was handled..after all, Fred is a journalist, and it is the "journalists" that feel slighted...like THEY should be the first to know...

BTW...the journalists are vying with the darn Congresscritters in wanting to be able to air their grievances OFTEN and LOUD, about this Administration..

MY gosh, on both C-span stations today...it is one after another Congresscritter, both DEM and GOP...who seem SO "holier-than-thou" over this Katrina thing...and I dare say any one of them...had they been in charge, would NOT have been able to keep those levees from breaking.

I'm so sick of the MSM second guessing what happened that I could actually SHOOT some of them! lol!

Thank GOD I'm not anywhere close to any of them! I know that I would, at least, slap the living **** out of someone!

Thanks for the heads-up ncpatriot.

Ah, a breath of fresh air-Britt Hume.

It's nice to see reason and sanity and calm when discussing this.

Brit reporting that the VP did not want Harry's wife and grown children to hear that their husband and father had been shot over the air waves.

The VP assumed that notifying the Corpus Christi paper would notify the AP.

He did not want a false report out and the VP knows that first reports are usually wrong.

Brit says VP is worried about Harry and what he has done and is shaken up.

Please see my reply in #216. Mr. Krauthammer's explanation is the most plausible I've heard to date.

Good grief. The man ACCIDENTALLY hurt a friend with a firearm. The friend will recover. No crime was committed. Chency took responsibility. The MSM has shown their complete irrelevance.
