Reporter Caught Clueless on Non-Cheney News
NewsMax ^ | February 16, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 02/16/2006 11:18:44 AM PST by Kaslin

The press has spent so much time this week obsessing over Dick Cheney's hunting accident that some reporters have been rendered completely oblivious to other important news developments.

After delivering yet another breathless report on Cheneygate Thursday morning, usually reliable ABC Radio News reporter Ann Compton was caught clueless about the takeover of six major U.S. ports by a Dubai company based in the United Arab Emirates - a country said to have ties to terrorism.

Compton's exchange with WABC Radio's John Gambling went like this:

GAMBLNG: What else [besides Cheneygate] is being talked about in the White House?

COMPTON: Absolutely nothing. This has sucked the oxygen out of President Bush's trip yesterday. He went all the way to the Wendy's hamburger headquarters in Ohio to talk about health care. . . . . Is that on the front page of any paper today? I did not do a single spot on it yesterday . . . .

COMPTON: [Cheneygate] really has dominated everything else . . . It is a fascinating story and one that ABC has reported very, very vigorously at the ground level and I think very responsibly.

GAMBLING: Ann, let me ask you a question. Is anybody talking about this story . . . about the Dubai Ports World Corporation running our major ports in the United States? You know anything about that?

COMPTON: Whooops. [Nervous laughter]

GAMBLING: The reason I ask you is exactly what you just finished talking about - sucking the oxygen out of the White House and Washington press corps . . . . This is like letting Saudi Arabia do security in our airports. And I think that Washington reporters need to jump on this thing.

COMPTON: Well, send me a quick email, John. It sounds like something I need to see. [END EXCERPT]

Al Franken was on Micheal Medved this week. He was clueless about Al Gore's Saudi speech.

So Ann admits her Left-leaning tunnel-vision.

ABC News is a mouthpiece for the left...so, I am surpised they haven't pushed this story as well...since Schumer is one of the major players in trying to get this Port thing re-investigated, before it is allowed to happen...

You know, Anne Compton is a really nice person...for a White House reporter. But I'm not surprised she didn't know about the Dubai Ports deal. When the wind begins screaming in WH briefing room everything else is ignored. "Cheney Gate," if you can call if that, has them all drooling. Yeah, it's like a group drool.

Ordinarily though, Anne's a good person. Honest.

Anne Compton sucks, I have to listen to her at the top of each hour during the Rush show. Actually I mute the radio these days for three minutes, I have it timed.

We no longer have a Main Stream Media! They are anything but mainstream.

FR needs to come up with a more accurate name and make it stick.

Well, Ann's right -- the mediots have been following the Cheney story "very, very, vigorously."

Which just goes to show that they're not interested in the news, but only in what they're interested in. F'n bastards.

"Is anyone in the MSM talking about Al Gore's accusations that he made in Saudi Arabia against his own country? "

You are exactly correct my friend and this indeed is the entire point.

Algore's crime is so heinous, so evil, so obvious, that it took the dedication of the entire MSM to smother out the flames.

It could have been anything, but Cheney's accident was there at the time so it had to do. If it wasn't for that, the MSM would have to create another fake service report on GWB to focus on just to divert attention from Gore.

God forbid that they should do actual WORK.

It would be very interesting to do a comparison of coverage, i.e., time/words spent, number of lead/front page stories, etc., on the Vince Foster shooting vs. Cheney's. Also, were there ever any editorial demands for the Clintons to make a complete disclosure regarding Foster's death, relocation of his body and ransacking of his office BEFORE it was made public?

The delivery channels are still mainstream (ABCBSNBCCNNMSNBCPBS alphabet networks) even if their message is not.

Does much of America still do their daily purchasing on Main Street?
