I do not support the UAE gaining control of the operations of our ports. Come on. A single fact that proves that this is what is going to happen. One. Just one fact. Come on. I am sure you would love to prove me wrong, wouldn't you? Come on, baby. I know you have it in you. ONE FACT!

Thank you. I just had strong words with my husband over this; he had listened to the television and was, of course, completely misinformed. However, he isn't political and can be reasoned with.
On the other hand, we have a lot of Freepers who go off on a rant without trying to find out the facts; and when they are presented with the facts, they ignore them. What's that all about? Ego? Rat operatives? Super conservatives who think Bush is a democrat? I don't pretend to understand, but it certainly is aggravating.

Yes, I'm a rat operative for demanding that Middle-Eastern nations be kept out of the operations of our ports on any level. Whew.

2.The UAE purchased a British company that is already performing operations at the ports in question. How is it not outsourcing when the Brits are doing the job, but becomes outsourcing with the British company is purchased by the UAE? Do you seriously think having the Brits running our ports is the same as having people from the UAE running them? You don't see any opportunity for malfeasance when a terrorist-friendly nation with millions of terrorist sympathizers is staffing our ports?

It seems that a good many Freepers cannot accept that we have allies in the gulf and that we will doubtlessly need them in the future. The GCC nations (Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE etc) have been very supportive of our efforts to clean up their neighborhood. Not all Arabs are our enemy (sigh), some admire us a great deal.

Both the left and the right have their nuts. Plenty of them still remain from the Pat Buchanan wing and others. They think Michael Savage is a god, instead of just an entertaining lunatic.
That is why politicians don't really listen to the nuts on either side unless they are broke and the nuts have lots of money. Then they pretend to listen to them until after the next election.

This controversy over the ports is a tempest in a teapot.

I'm afraid it's going to play into the dems hands during this election year. Chertoff doesn't give me a warm-and-fuzzy feeling in his comments on the subject.
Of course, I was against the Chinese buying Union Oil last year, too... some things should remain in the hands of American's, though if they are dems....

Do you know what a port operator does? Do you think it has ANYTHING to do with security? Finally, just where do you think the Brits are going? IT IS JUST AN INVESTMENT, PEOPLE!!!!

I guess it was easier to call me a xenophobe than answer how many more U.S. citizens had to die before he'd see why I didn't want any UAE involvement in our ports.

No, you aren't a Rat operative. You're just a garden-variety Buchananite with a visceral suspicion of anything George Bush does.
It may or may not be a good idea to allow the operation of the port (NOT the security) to continue once the company changes from the British to the Dubai company.
However, the willful attempt of many on this forum to act like this was PLANNED by the Bush administration (note the article on which this thread is based) and the refusal to calmly look at the issue, rather than going into long-winded tangents, simply is completely aggravating.
Your objection has been noted, and I will give it some consideration if you can prove to me that you understand how port operations work, who is in charge of port security, and why you didn't object when the British were in control (Remember, there were and are British citizens who are terorists.)

There are a lot of other Democrat operatives out there pretending to have been conservatives for decades. Beware the dreaded UAE fixated xenophobes...

I don't recall you mentioning a single fact about THIS issue. When you do, you might get an answer. But since you cant, I guess there is nothing to respond about, is there? Your argument is no different than those of those fools on DU. You don't bring a single illustrative point to the discussion. You don't even know what you are talking about, just preening for your fellow uninformed friends. For people like you, it is more important to spout off, then to know what the hell you are talking about. Luckily, you are still a minority among Conservatives.

I have relatives in El Paso and what they see and tell me would turn your stomach. Our own feds went after two American policemen when they shot a Mexican drug runner. It is getting more dangerous everyday to be a gringo in America. Mexicans are not coming across the border to be Americans; they are going there to take over.

judging by the posts on this and other threads, id say we're in the majority on this one.
only a delusional fool would think that we were in the minority.
