This article is right up there with the other, "Bush Fails to prevent Eastern Blizzard".
Or "War on Poverty Fails in Spite of Tripling of Funds"
Or "California Education in the Tank in Spite of Quintupling of Spending"
Some things can't be solved by "nice". Ignorance is one of them.
It's like trying to cure cancer with a painless "nice" cream...

And the alternative? Remember that Saddam was one of our puppies. Not until he trurned on us and invaded Kuwait did we deal with this pitbull. The realists were completely oblivious to the rise of political Islam. Now we are trying to give it an outlet different from the usual. It is not "democracy", but as Aristotle pointed out long ago, popular government is apt to degenerate into tyranny. But it may work after all.

If the admisistration didnt dunderheadedly try to remake Iraq into to One nation instead of Three, one for the Kurds, one for the shiities and one for the suniis, this civil war wouldnt have happened.
Sadam kept a lid on by running a police state. There is no way in hell these tribes can get along without repression.
