Management of our ports

Here is a petition I though many would be interested in.

This petition calls for Congress to pass a law that requires that all management of our ports to be conducted by either elected officials or contracted to companies located here in the United States.

Top reasons to end foreign management of our ports.

1. Security: Our ports are one of the most sensitive access points to our country. Even though we manage the security do we want people from foreign countries having access to every detail about how one of our ports is run, how to access the port, possible vulnerabilities of the port and access to how the ports security operates.

2. Economics: Is it right for our government to out source high paying management jobs to people outside the United States?

3. Taxes: Our ports are run by taxes and fees charged to the citizens of the US is it right to take tax money and give it to companies outside the United States.

4. Government: We are all familiar with the concept of government of the people, by the people and for the people. Managing a port is equal to governing the port. Is it right to have any part of our government run by people outside the United States or should we always be governed by our own people.

This petition will be delivered to the President, the leaders of both political parties in the House and the Senate. It is our goal to deliver 2 million plus signatures by June of 2006.

Yeah... that's what we need... let's have the folks who gave us the Medicare system and the United States Post Office run our ports. No thanks.

They're not managing the port, they're managing the terminals.

All this will do is make more federal employees and all the more $$$'s to the Dems who do the Unions bidding.

1. Security:
2. Economics:
3. Taxes:
4. Government:

None of these reasons has any basis in the facts of the PNO to DPW terminal license transfer business deal.

You don't appear to have any understanding about the business deal, or how our ports are run.

No kidding. I would much rather have the folks who gave us the UAE Post Office run our ports.

A petition like this which fundamentally misstates the actual facts would be helpful in demonstrating how ignorant people can still have strong opinions.

I thought our ports were run by the fees charged to the shippers of goods. Am I wrong?

Would these be the same elected officials that protect the southern border?

No, that would be the CBP, which is involved in this UAE ports deal as well. Doesn't that make you feel all safe and secure?

Whatever we do, we must keep the Dept of Homeland Security out of the equation. As director of DHS, Chertoff makes a mighty fine judge.

That's better. American compan ies only. NO foreigners of any kind. NO "jihadists", NO "islamofascists", NO commie-pinko Reds from China, NO Euro-socialists need apply.

Leave it in the hands of true blue, good red blooded Americans.

"Leave it in the hands of true blue, good red blooded Americans."

In reality, it will be in the hands of lazy, overpaid, corrupt, union workers (perhaps an overly redundant label). It irks me a lot more than we will have union workers playing a large role in our security rather than foreigners playing a small role.
