The New York Post ^ | March 5, 2006 -- BAGHDAD | Ralph Peters

Posted on 03/05/2006 5:17:03 AM PST by freeperfromnj

I'M trying. I've been trying all week. The other day, I drove another 30 miles or so on the streets and alleys of Baghdad. I'm looking for the civil war that The New York Times declared. And I just can't find it.

This is a very enlightening report. Thanks for posting the reference.

I love firsthand accounts from Iraq that expose the laziness and deceit of illegitimate media operating in Iraq. Clearly, anyone that accepts a version of events from the NY Times is a fool.

Hi, Allegra. Happy Alamo Day (tomorrow).

Sorry we can't send you one of those "bonus checks" our trusty City Council staffers were cutting each other, and forging Carol Alvarado's initials on the city check-cutting paperwork.

Yes, do let us know about the "civil war", if you find one.

One thing they keep telling us, including that Jill Whatshername who is being held by Ansar al-Sunna or somebody......is that you can't go out on the streets or you'll be shot dead. Is that true?

If you're American, you can't walk in the street without Russian ex-spetsnazy bodyguards?

How about all that? We're getting that from PBS Frontline, from Jill, from MSM media generally, from all of them.

Oh, and Bill Buckley's been poisoned by them, too -- he wrote a column last week, put up his Walter Cronkite opus. Then turned around and said that even though we've lost, we can't afford to quit. Not sure what exactly he meant by all that. But he shows pretty serious signs of media toxemia.

You probably won't see it anywhere else. I came across it as I was reading a hard copy of the Post and thought it was definitely worth sharing.

Hmmmmmm, probably Zarqawi's next project. Or Sadr's, too, maybe.

Given this is not a traditional war, I wonder when the time will come that someone drives a truck bomb into the lobby of the NY Times as a way to strike against the enemy?

I e-mailed the link to this story to liberal acquaintances; but they probable won't read it due to the source, The "right wing" NY Post.

Uh-oh. Now. we're getting hypothetical. ;-)

There would definitely be a reaction to an event like that, just as there was to the shrine bombomg in Samarra. Hard to say just how intense that reaction would get.

Of course, the reaction would depend on a lot of things. Would there be evidence that al-Qaeda perfomred the dirty deed, or perhaps Iranians tyring to stir things up?

Any number of scenarios could take place, depending on the circumstances. After all, WWI began with an assassination.

Answer 1: The Times is not an enemy of the terrorists who do that stuff.

Answer 2: We are the good guys and don't do that stuff.

Please don't use replies to complete articles from excerpt-only sources, such as the NY Post.

Well, hello lentulusgracchus. Sounds like things are just fine and dandy with the Houston City Council, as usual. LOL

First, I want to get one thing really clear. Americans do not go running around Baghdad on their own whim. Not those with any sense, anyway. It's not as if there's a guarantee that you'll be shot dead, but al-Qaeda is all over the place here and we are big targets. It is a very dangerous place and I've never tried to kid anybody on that.

Just for one example, a mortar was launched right at my building a couple of days ago and exploded just outside our gate. Nobody was hurt, but they're after us.

We only travel through the city in heavily armored convoys and routes are pre-cleared. (Can't go into detail on that.) And we only travel when we have to. None of this is fail-safe, but these are good precautions.

When I was at another base (north Baghdad) in '04 and '05, we could only travel off-base by helicopter because the roads around there were extremely dangerous and very active.

So, as much as I'd love to picnic along the Tigris or snoop around the shops on the streets (I actually dream at night of doing this sometimes), we can't do those things yet.

I feel for Jill Carroll, but she was being boneheaded by gallivanting around Baghdad as if it were London or New York.

This all being said, there is no civil war here. (Had to get that in again. I love to dig at the media. LOL)

GOD bless you! I hope all is well. If I can send anything your way, or any of your buds need anything sent over, let me know. I'd be happy to help in some way. Your posts ALWAYS have a way of stripping the nasty film of the MSM (deception) away from my soul!

They've staked their reputations on Iraq's failure.

Truth spoken in print has a suprising power to bring the issue at hand in focus. It is a fact that they want us to fail. They never seem to consider the results if they get their way.
