Dr. Leslie Ellwood, president of the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, has said, "We don't have an opinion or issue an opinion on guns."

Has anyone seen where the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics renounced easily located statements of the national organization? Why does the AAP hide the URLs of its webpages?

http://www.aap.org/healthtopics/safety.cfm

Click on Firearms, then look for "Firearm Injury Prevention," located below "Brochures, Fact Sheets, and Quick Facts," below "Family and Community Resources," which itself is below "Firearm Injury Prevention." Go figure about why the directions seem convoluted. If I had posted that webpage by copying and pasting its HTML source code, it would have been an oversized monstrosity that you would have had to shift arrows back and forth in order to read it.

Firearm-Related Injuries Affecting the Pediatric Population

odd how their opinion on how to keep children safe from guns is to completely keep kids away from guns and not teach them anything about them other than "guns are bad", yet their opinion on sex, rather than advocate abstinence is teach them every facet of it, teach them how wonderful it is, teach them every way to protect yourself while doing it, how to do it without protection, what the consequences are, force the issue to be taught in school, give out free condoms, try to allow minors to have abortions without parental consent or knowledge...
i think doctors are a bit backwards here.

My sister had wanted a child for years and finally conceived in her early forties. Her OB-GYN immediately set upon her with all manner of statistics relating to higher incedence of Downs Syndrome and a variety of other maladies, pressuring her to abort. She even went so far as to point out supposed "abnormalities" in the ultrasound. My sister, who is just not assertive enough to tell this pushy propagandist of a "doctor" where to put her opinions, came home in tears on several occasions as a result.

To make a long story short, my sister and brother in law decided to have the baby, and she's a healthy, beautiful little girl, who will be three in May, the light of our lives.

I still go into a slow burn, whenever I think of how things could have turned out, had this supposed medical professional had had her way.

They ought to campaign against swimming pools and automobiles; both are far more deadly to kids.

OK, Americans, you can no longer have a backyard swimming pool and you may no longer own an automobile!!! Nor may you live on a street which allows automobiles..... we must all live on bike paths........

If a doctor asks questions that are none of his gawddamn business, fire the bastard and take your business elsewhere.

You wouldn't put up with your auto mechanic asking if you have guns in the house?

"The safest thing for your family is not to keep a gun in the home."

Absolutely true. There can be no gun accidents in the house if there are no guns there. Now take a broader view and balance that with the safety a gun provides, and the safety of a child taught safe use of guns should he ever encounter one outside of the house.

I proudly checked the "Yes" box on my form and wansn't asked any questions. The higher the stats go for kids with guns in the house means the end statistics go down for "children killed in handgun accidents in the home in comparison to the number of homes with handguns present."

I had to get a physical for a job that required carrying a weapon.

After the usual reflex test, turn your head and cough, etc, the doc asks whether I'll be carrying for the job. I answered yes, but hadn't bought a duty weapon yet.

Imagine my utter shock when we ended up talking guns for like a half hour! Not only was he a doctor, a profession I usually associate with lefties, but the guy lived in a ritzy Boston suburb and carried. He was telling me how he had to stock up on hi-cap mags before the AWB, etc.

You just never know.

Ping.

Here's a nice Physician Affidavit, courtesy of the Second Amendment Sisters (with a little clean up and reformatting by yours truly), that folks may find useful to hand to nosy physicians.

I promptly changed my pediatrician about 8 years ago when she started asking the same questions as this article. I have had several other doctors make the same inquiries only to find I enthusiastically support the first 10 Constitutional amendments.

Drives 'em crazy, shows also how ignorant doctors can be. Ask one of these gun-grabber doctors about the 3rd, 4th or 5th amendments and see how stupid most are about the US Constitution.

If any "doctor" asks those questions, simply reply, "You're fired. I need a doctor, not a busybody liberal."

I thought this was a federal thing.

I just lie. It's none of their business. Besides, for all I know it's going back to the insurers.

"Visiting the AAP Web site proves otherwise; it provides official advice to parents to "not purchase a gun, especially a handgun" and to "remove all guns present in the home," and states, "The safest thing for your family is not to keep a gun in the home."

Typical anti-gun Liberal BS! Justice department statistics prove that armed citizens are safer then unarmed citizens. And the Armed citizens stop more crime than all Law Enforcement (LE) in the country combined. Namely because these citizens are usually the intended victims but have refused to be victims and armed themselves.

If you want to be safer quit seeing doctors they kill far more people then guns do.

This is getting bad. A friend's daughter was asked if there were guns in their home a few months ago.

Frickin' nuts

Since our son was born last August, in California, we get this kind of questionnaire every time we take the kid in for a checkup. I have refused to answer these questions, and told my wife, who comes from a society where authority figures such as doctors are obeyed without question -- but she's learning -- not to answer any non-medical questions, including any question about what goes on in our home.

I do not get any backtalk from the Doctor when I simply tell them MYOB. A friend of mine says that the driving force behind these questions are insurance companies concerned that the doctors and staff will face liability for not reporting child endangerment.

Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program Helps 18 Million Children Avoid Gun Accidents

The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program, NRA's groundbreaking gun accident prevention program for children in pre-K through the third grades, has achieved a new milestone, reaching 18 million children in all 50 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Created by past NRA President Marion P. Hammer, in consultation with child psychologists, elementary schoolteachers, and law enforcement officers, the program gives children a simple, effective action to take should they encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation: "If you see a gun, STOP! Don't Touch. Leave the Area. Tell an Adult."

Over the years, the program has been praised by numerous groups and elected officials, including the National Safety Council, the U.S. Department of Justice, and 24 state governors.

Well if they're going to go that route, then they need to ask some other questions that cause harm to children such as,
(1) Is there pornography in the home?
(2) Does mom make a lot of fatty foods or do a lot of take-out from fast food places?
(3) Do mom and dad make you exercise and get outside to get some physical exercise or do they just let you sit around the house and play video games, gameboy and potentially end up with repetitive motion injuries?
These people are such hypocrites. If they really cared, they'd know that these things have far more bearing on the child's health than having guns in the home!

The anti-gunners are always looking to infiltrate friendly groups, and then use them to promote the anti-gun agenda. They were doing similar things with PTAs a couple of years back. Remember the old business about how nobody was supposed to let their children play with other children who had guns in the house? I literally heard that BS about twenty times when my child was in pre-school. After everybody either learned to lie or tell them to buzz off, that fell by the boards.

The sad thing is, after people get used to telling their pediatricians to buzz off over this, the anti-gunners will move onto the next group to exploit. The are like political locusts. They leave nothing but destruction in their wake.
