NEW YORK (Reuters) - Aircraft maker and defense contractor Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - news) is poised to regain supremacy in the commercial jet business over rival Airbus, Barron's reported in its March 13 edition. ADVERTISEMENT
Boeing's fuel-efficient mid-sized wide bodies, the 777 and the 787 Dreamliner, are drawing more new orders than Airbus' competing offerings, Barron's reported.
Boeing is banking on passengers' preference to fly directly to their destinations, while Airbus has bet on large aircraft to take passengers cheaply to and from major hubs and then to smaller connecting flights, Barron's said.
The company's defense business also promises to provide plenty of cash flow despite slowing in defense spending growth, Barron's said.
Well, since Boeing is probably going to lose a huge number of 777 and 787 orders thanks to some idiots in Congress, Airbus might just manage to stay ahead.
But how is this possibale. Did not old Chiraci go out last year and gush endlessly how Airbus's new cattle car was going to be the death of Boeing?
But isn't Dubai going to cancel its Boeing orders?
Yea, they were going to "review" it. But guess what, the economics are still there. If they want to go and buy the cattle car that costs more to operate and fly it half empty all the time, well, so be it. My bet is they buy the planes anyway. And my bet is some of our congrescritters are trying hard to make it up to Dubai. I'm betting they still buy the 787.
Must be those Renault engines Airbus is trying to use up.
They found out how to sell a lot of planes: make good ones.
The battle is between the 777/787 and the Airbus A350.
Airbii (Plural for AIRBUS) don't run on Renault engines; they use Rolls-Royce, CFM, GE and Pratt & Whittney
It was the Renault 4 cylinder car engines from the 1950 s
I wish the Lazy "B" good luck on it, but what with the outsourcing of the engineering design of subsystems to Russian design bureaus, I can't get real enthusiastic over it.
In spite of all the sonorous claims made for it, the airplane only exists on CAD files and simulations, so far. In the computer business we would call it "vaporware."
I'm willing to be proven wrong about it.
Mm-hmm....I see now....that must be the reason for the sloooow rate of climb for the Airbus A340-300.
I have the video of that little escapade. I'm told that not everyone on board was killed, however.
We will see more fallout from that than just Airbus unfortunately.
