No argument that a protest is needed.

Why not on the border in California? That'll get PLENTY of media, and you won't be accused of copying the dumbest woman on the planet, Cindy Sheehan.

Maybe you should be talking to our President about your concerns of a party split over border issues and illegals coming and staying in this country. We have tried, he does not listen to us. We are on the conservative side of this issue, he is the one who is not. Have you thought about that??

I am also unhappy about illegals flooding our country.

But you have to be realistic, we don't have enough momentum on our side to to elect someone who will solve this problem today. Actually we are not having any elections right now.

We now have a Republican president who is having his programs crippled by the constant carping for immigration reform. There is not enough support in congress to pass serious reform right now.

When the next presidential election comes along I will be looking to support a Republican candidate who will make immigration reform a priority. However I will support the parties nominee even if he is not strong on immigration because I don't want the Democrats to win. I believe the Democrats are basically socialist and must be stopped.

While we are not getting what we want from Bush on immigration, there are many other good things happening (economy, WOT, SCOTUS), and I don't think we should neutralize him because of the one issue.

I am way past unhappy about illegals, and the many other border issues, and so are my neighbors. We are simply fed up and are not willing to take it any more.

The border issues are absolutely a part of the WOT that has been ignored. We are not safe as a country as long as anyone who wishes to can simply walk in whenever they want. If you think terrorists can not simply walk across this border you are kidding yourself.

I am sitting here watching people ready to throw it all away over the lack of perfection

Lack of perfection? Cut me a break. More like lack of any sincerity on the part of the Bush Admin to combat illegal immigration.

Say what? Polls on the issue show Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of doing something to combat illegal immigration. There is plenty of momentum. But neither the Dems nor most of the pubbies wish to listen to the electorate.

so they'd rather see the country destroyed

The ones destroying this country are the ones refusing to combat illegal immigration. But true to form, you project that on your opponents.

..... Cindy Sheehan will be mentioned in every dispatch -- which does you no good, since people either believe she is a liberal goddess or a complete moonbat. .....

If this is the best argument that you can come up with then you may want to reconsider your argument as I doubt you will change much of anyone's mind with that irresolute argument. I happen to believe that while many on the right do not really wish to give those on the left wing fringe, aka Cindy Sheehan types any more unnecessary publicity we on the right are more concerned with what President Bush is attempting to do to our nation by way of his giving it away or at least seriously eroding our nations sovereignty rights and powers for the sake of globalizing our economy and nation.

But on the other hand, do as the liberals always resort to when they no longer have valid arguments or answers, resort to name calling of those you disagree with. Hmmmmmn, moonbat indeed?! That's real thoughtful considering the source.

...celebrating the progress we have made...

What progress? You must live in a state that hasn't yet been infiltrated by illegals, and I think your Freeper name fits in this case. You are being ignorantly optimistic and foolish on this issue. I've lived in border states all my life (TX and CA) and things have gone from bad to worse over the past few decades. The only 'progress' that has been made has been by the Minutemen by bringing the issue to the public's attention and by the House, in passing the illegal immigration bill.

And as far a 'cooler heads' goes, what do you want people to do? Sit back and wait and wait for the politicians to do something while our cities in the south are turning into a 3rd world? It's so bad here in S. Cal., that we are looking into moving to another state where English is spoken! I think a grass-roots effort like what is happening now - and a huge shift away from the left-leaning Republican party - is the only hope for the fate of this country.

My point is you can have this protest ANYWHERE and still get loads of coverage.

Why associate yourself with Cindy by having it at Crawford?

Unless that's your intention -- to make folks on the right look as batty as she is. I get a real weird feeling about this entire thing.

The usual suspects are standing up on chairs, holding their petticoats, and screaming incoherently. Interesting comments is right.

Over on Liberty Post, they've talked about bringing guns to this protest.

Link please. 3rd request. Are you sticking by this statement?

Agreed. I'm thinking that if I can manage the time I might try making this event myself.

No. I quit going there about two or three years or more ago. To be honest I'd already forgotten that place still existed on FR. Nothing personal, I just prefer to post on the open forums.

I am not going to argue with you on this.

You can think I'm an idiot if you'd like. I do not believe you are one or that you shouldn't believe/feel the way you do. I clearly understand where you are coming from. I just disagree with the tactics and proposed solutions in this case.

In addition, I think the President has offered SOMETHING, even if it isn't what you want. I don't think it's lack of sincerity. I believe it is just different from what you want. Which is, again, understandable.

You are being ignorantly optimistic and foolish on this issue.

Perhaps. But while I do not live in the Southwest, we have plenty of illegals in our neck of the woods.

I have also spent a lot of time studying this issue, especially in relationship to historical immigration and how it affected our culture. So while I am no expert, I am not completely naive or ignorant or even foolish as you suggest.

That said, my celebrating the progress we've made has NOTHING to do with immigration. That was said in relationship to the conservative movement as a whole, not necessarily this one issue. My issue with Immigration on this thread is the kind of tactics being suggested relating to Crawford. That was certainly not clear in that original post of mine, but is in a very long post later on.

Finally, what do I want people to do? Well, first and foremost, I want local people to take responsibility. I think President Bush was wrong and misinformed when he jumped on the Minute Men.

But I also think that many people are wrong in pushing this issue too far, too hard, too fast. It stands the risk of alienating so many people there is a backlash. Take the issue of gay marriage for instance. They have actually lost ground, significant ground, by pushing too hard. We don't have the time, or the luxury of risking that same type of push back.

At the end of the day, slow and steady is better. And will, indeed, win the race. In an issue like this, incrementalism often does work.
