A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 3.15.06

The president addressed an audience in Silver Spring, MD, on the benefits of Medicare prescription drug benefit.

Members of Congress met with Bush on his upcoming legislative agenda. Many of the major stock indexes have hit 5 year highs; the Dow Jones 30, the SP 500 included.

Bush attended the Hungarian Celebration of Contributions to Democracy, marking the 50th year since the Hungarian revolution.

Click here for an article, with video links, about Laura Bush and exercising. Laura's shocking confession! "I Was Shamed into Starting To Exercise." =)

He surely lives his faith -- every person is precious to him.

MUST READS:

Dickie Morris must have read the DOSE last evening! In his article for the NYPost added the following caveat to his mantra that President Bush needs to work harder to bolster his popularity:

"George W. Bush is not lazy; he works hard at the job of president. But not at the job of regaining his popularity - perhaps out of an old-school belief that popularity is for elections. But this mistakes the nature of modern American politics - where popularity is for every day, and those who lose it are destined to twist in the wind."

[BOTTOMLINE: When the public isn't focused on politics (and it's not focused at present), the media CAN DEPRESS A PRESIDENT'S JA RATINGS BY AS MUCH AS 15 POINTS (or inflate ratings as it did for Clinton), and that's exactly what's happening now. As we get closer to November, the public will start paying attention and the pollsters will start behaving more responsibly. Like magic, the President's JA ratings will rise and the Repubicans will hold Congress (both houses)! IGNORE THE POLLS AND THE MEDIA UNTIL THEN!]

MYTHS OF IRAQ
By Ralph Peters

During a recent visit to Baghdad, I saw an enormous failure. On the part of our media. The reality in the streets, day after day, bore little resemblance to the sensational claims of civil war and disaster in the headlines.

No one with first-hand experience of Iraq would claim the country's in rosy condition, but the situation on the ground is considerably more promising than the American public has been led to believe. Lurid exaggerations and instant myths obscure real, if difficult, progress.

I left Baghdad more optimistic than I was before this visit. While cynicism, political bias and the pressure of a 24/7 news cycle accelerate a race to the bottom in reporting, there are good reasons to be soberly hopeful about Iraq's future.

IT'S LEGAL
The solid legal basis for the administration’s surveillance program.

EDITOR’S NOTE: On Monday, when Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold introduced a resolution to censure President Bush, he said, "When the President of the United States breaks the law, he must be held accountable." Bush, Feingold continued, "authorized an illegal program to spy on American citizens on American soil and then misled the Congress and the public about the existence and the legality of that program." Although few Democrats have joined Feingold's call for censure, nearly all of them agree with Feingold's contention that the surveillance program is illegal. But the president's adversaries overlook the solid legal basis for the administration's actions outlined in Byron York's recent article on a little-known court decision in a matter called In re: Sealed Case. Here is York's story, from the February 27 issue of National Review:

You have to read DrDeb's post at #83! "Dickie Morris must have read the DOSE last evening! In his article for the NYPost added the following caveat to his mantra that President Bush needs to work harder to bolster his popularity:"

Excerpt:

I think of George Bush as the older brother I wish I had had, and I am sick to death of the petty (and often lying) criticisms he has to endure.

Well, I HAVE two older brothers, and I still think of the President as my older brother..............only sexier. ;)

How are you doing, Miss Marple? I've been thinking a lot about, and praying a lot for you.....

GREAT articles, Deb! I LOVE the series that Ralph Peters is doing.

MAN, I wish that were required reading for every American citizen!

How in the world can they judge how the President is doing in Iraq when they haven't got a CLUE as to what's going on in Iraq??

I'm ok. Sad, of course, but I got so many wonderful messages from Freepers as well as cards and flowers, that I am uplifted by all the wonderful friends I have here. My husband was dumbfounded; he didn't realize the people on the internet were actually friends.
