GOP Misses Mark on Internet Gambling Ban
FOXNews.com ^ | March 15, 2006 | Radley Balko

Three bills aiming to “prohibit” Internet gambling are now winding their way through Congress.

Internet gambling is already prohibited, at least in most forms. The companies that operate casino, sports betting, and poker websites are all based offshore, and most of their executives risk arrest if they ever step foot on American soil.

But web-based gambling is still a $12 billion industry. And so just as has happened every other time our government has attempted to ban vice (see illicit drugs, prostitution, and alcohol), efforts to ban online gambling have not only failed, they’ve created more problems than they’ve solved.

Yep. Its a stupid proposal. You can't outlaw human nature.

Just legalize it. Hell, if you legalize it you can tax it.

You can't outlaw human nature.

That minor fact will never keep them from trying though.

This is one important fact:

That makes the people who play these sites highly susceptible to fraud, with no recourse in U.S. courts should they be bilked out of their money.

Buyer beware...getting US jurisdiction in Aruba might be a little tough.

Let the states decide and fight it out. Just like all of the Americans that come from states where gambling is illegal to go to Vegas and A.C., do the same for Internet gambling.

More unlimited goverment from the NEOGOP!

"The American heritage was one of individual liberty, personal responsibility and freedom from government. Unfortunately, that heritage has been lost. Americans no longer have the freedom to direct their own lives. Today, it is the government that is "free”...free to do whatever it wants. There is no subject, no issue, no matter that is not subject to legislation."...Harry Browne

Yeah BUT. Same with marijuana.
Legalize and tax, but the lawyers counselors, and suppliers make too much by having it illegal.
Gambling makes vegas and indians etc lots of money. They will work hard to keep it illegal in any other forms.
Money money money money.

Las Vegas was unable to keep gambling from becoming approved in other states. I can't do it here in Texas except through the state run lottery, but it exists practically everywhere in some form. Even in Texas we can take a gambling boat out 12 miles from shore to play some blackjack.

The corrupt laws that funnel the activity to a few people is just wrong.

the lawyers counselors, and suppliers make too much by having it illegal.

If internet gambling put money in the pockets of politicians, congress would pass an Internet Gambling Protection Act.

I only play online poker, no sports betting or other stuff. IMNHO if you stick with the major sites you won't have any problems. They are making hundreds of millions legitimately, they don't need to risk their reputations with any sort of scams. I have never experienced any problems personally.
