Corzine Ready To Lower Tax Boom On N.J. CBS 2 Speaks To Upset Residents, Many Hint At Leaving Image
Marcia Kramer Reporting
(CBS) BERGENFIELD New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine unveils his belt tightening new budget on Tuesday. But even before the announcement, New Jersey taxpayers were expecting the worst.
When Corzine voted for himself to become governor of New Jersey he knew that one day he would have to make some difficult and unpopular budget decisions. That day is Tuesday. And already people are lining up to oppose his expected tax hikes.
Its utterly ridiculous we have to have the guts to cut spending and live within our means, Bogota Mayor Steven Lonegan said.
Lonegan on Monday established a grassroots group to oppose Corzine's expected tax cuts.
Corzine has indicated he favors sales tax hikes as part of a plan to close a $4 billion budget gap.
But the state's inability to increase school aid is expected to force local governments to increase property taxes.
If state aid is flat we will have to raise local property taxes roughly 10 to 15 percent, Lonegan said.
Some New Jersey homeowners say they're thinking about leaving the state. Others already have.

Very well said. This IS the sphincter state.
Serves them right!hey love Democraps! Always vote for Democraps! What the hell do they expect?
I hear Corzine might extend the sales tax to include clothing. That'll really stick it to all those rich folks. I'm sure everybody's looking forward to seeing what Donald Trump looks like nekkid.
And snow, too!--yep, we had snow here in Arizona a few weeks ago.
Honestly, if I were going to consider moving to another state, it would have to be one where I could at least make close to the money I can make here in NJ.
Oklahoma is very nice but income wise, it's the third world compared to New Jersey.
Yes it is....don't bother.
Wait. Your telling me that they Escape from New Jersey to go to California so that they can raise taxes and escape to Nevada to raise taxes to escape to another state? That dog don't hunt!
"Massive tax increases, corruption, over-regulation, too much government, and increasing social programs were the reason I left my huge family behind in 1996. Since then -- matters have become so bad in New Jersey that many members of my family have been planning to exit."
It truly is an awful state (except for its physical beauty). But you forgot to mention eminent domain which is destroying the Jersey Shore.
And NC. Since we don't like libs, you will never be accepted.
Relax, I don't intend to go to Oklahoma. Luckily I can afford to go where I want but I'm staying put in NJ. Besides the politics, it's actually a great place to live.
You mean to tell me there aren't tons of liberals around the Research Triangle Park, Cary, Durham, and Raleigh areas? I've got friends down there who tell me it's actually an acronym that stands for:
I've always wondered why liberalism is able to spread so far and wide like a nasty infection but it seems an uphill struggle for conservatism to spread from the interior of the country outward towards the coasts. Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm..."

Ya get what ya vote for (those who did not vote for this clown can hold their heads up high) the ones who DID vote for this clown will now see how much they DIDN'T KNOW about clowns.
But no spiders? Packin' my bags right now!!!!
Hey, we have ticks in Jersey to their called politicians
And where in this great country are YOU from?
do I really have to say it???
My remark was intended to stem the flow of libs to our state.
Oh just dang......you were doing GREAT 'til this one. Ya see.......snakes don't eat mosquitoes.
