Splitting wood every day probably helped You make a good point. More people die from sitting on their backsides too much than from anything else.

But if they are smokers, who can say the deaths were premature? Do drug addicts die young because they are addicts or because the deaths were premature?

YES...have you ever heard of HONEY? Sweets with honey taste NO different.
What did our ancestors use to sweeten their cakes, pies, etc. long before sugar? Syrups...one in particular used is Sorghum Syrup.
Producing pure sweet sorghum syrup since 1926. Sorghum is a syrup made from sweet sorghum cane used as a table syrup and can be used in baking. Example: Use sorghum syrup on pancakes, corn bread, and bread. http://maasdamsorghummills.homestead.com/

There was a great anti-smoking ad on TV in the 80's that showed a construction crew guy using his last match to light the fuse on some explosives. Then he settled back to have a smoke and realizing he didn't have another match he started chasing the burning fuse to light his cig.Yeah, but stupidity kills, no matter what else is going on.

You first need to go to the government to get a large grant of taxpayer money to do a study on the insanely obvious. Let's see....water, hills.....

Lol. That is somewhat true, but if it was an absolute there wouldn't be so many people on the welfare rolls.

Major insight: people who carelessly toss matches often get burnt or start forest fires.
May I have a federal grant now to continue my research?

May I have a federal grant now to continue my research? OK, but only if you can connect it up with sex or global warming. Or better, both.

i.e. almost three to one greater chances of croaking from the noxious weed. Sounds about right.

How did you stumble across that conclusion?
To: Labyrinthos
but from a statistical standpoint, people who smoke die younger than those who don't. I'm not arguing the stupidity of smoking. In my opinion, it's the worst thing one can do to one's body, with the possible exception of crack/meth or skag.
Just remarking on the vagaries of statistics and actuarial tables.
You are correct, there is always an exception to the rule. I knew a lowlife that smoked crack for years, OD'd twice on skag, sucked thousands of dollars worth of cocaine up her nose and is today a pretty damn good looking nurse at the age of 48, and been sober only three years.
If my father beat the stats thus far, just think of my chances, if the genes thing holds water.
And I don't smoke. Or use any drugs except prescribed Vicodin for my knees.
Plus, my high-risk lifestyle ended when I retired from the military.
Insurance companies should be beating my doors down, huh?
