South Dakota Indian Tribe Will Open Abortion Business if Ban Becomes Law

Pierre, SD (LifeNews.com) -- A South Dakota Indian tribe is throwing a monkey wrench into the state's plans to ban virtually all abortions in the state. Should the ban become law, one tribe says it will open up an abortion business on their tribal lands, which wouldn't be subjected to the abortion ban.

Cecilia Fire Thunder, president of the Oglala Sioux tribe of South Dakota, says Sioux nation sovereignty means the new ban doesn't apply. As a result, she said she will lead an effort to build a Planned Parenthood abortion center at the Pine Ridge Reservation.

“To me, it is now a question of sovereignty,” she told Tim Giago who runs a web site called Indianz.com.

“I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction," Fire Thunder said.

A former nurse and health care worker, Fire Thunder is the first woman president of the Sioux nation.

'Scuse me, Mr. Noble Savage...exactly how does the willingness to murder babies in the womb fit in with that whole "worship the Great Spirit, one with the universe the great Earth Mother "thing?

Now, why would they want to kill off their babies? (I know...white women would come, too, but I'm afraid that the majority of any clinic's vict...er, customers, would be Indian.)

Abortion is not a choice among Native Americans.

I respect native Americans, but I wonder if the elders of ages past could have foreseen a 2006 in which the principal sources of revenue for NAs is gambling, trinkets and perhaps abortions. Some of this is paleface's fault, but it's still unsettling.

Exactly. The notion of a nation within a nation is nothing but preservation of white guilt. Enough of it already.

It doesn't. Government Schools have fried these Indians brains.

My grandfather use to tell me, "Becareful around white people...they only think of themselves...and they kill like children. (He meant undisciplined, or for sport or fun.)

Oh...he was an Indian.

They've been tainted by liberals at the BIF and Government Schools.

You really don't know anything about people who play Bingo. I live in Laughlin, NV....I'm an expert. Church Bingo is not like Casino bingo...

We'll see what happens. I suspect the few protests won't make a dent on the bottom line.

There is presently a national unease brewing just below the surface over the whole notion of tribal sovereignty and Indian Casinos. This kind of crap could be its death knell.

I don't know much about that but would like to find out. There are reservations all over he!!. One here in downtown LV that you can buy smokes at. ??

At any rate, they may have their reservation to do this on but one has to get to the reservation.

I could project some quick - and very lengthy - maintenance work (total rebuild ?) on the roads connecting your reservation to our STATE. Total traffic disrutpion and all that. So sorry, price of progress, ya know?

The indians rely on the state police to police there nations, Yet they don't believe they should follow a law like this. So let me get this straight...They could murder an outsider and then let the crime go unpunished if they choose to do so?

I've long argued that it's time to abolish all indian reservations. The whole concept is so 19th Century.

They're a pale echo of the promises made by palefaces. Until the Injuns don't want them anymore, they'll be.

The majority of America abortuaries are located in the inner city black community.

Not surprising, since the eugenicist Margaret Sanger, (Rudy Giuliani's hero, btw), made it clear that she wanted to do away with anyone with darker skin pigment than hers. Everything has very much gone according to her plan.

The Sioux are foolishly helping the people who will gladly finish off their tribe and people, given the opportunity.

If an abortuary ever went up on the reservation, the vast majority of the children butchered would be Sioux.
