Thousands line Phoenix street in protest march

Thousands of supporters of immigrant rights march to the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in Phoenix. Many said they were most incensed by what they see as punitive immigration reform proposals, especially one approved by the House in December that would make unlawful presence in the United States a felony.

(Phoenix, Arizona-AP) March 24, 2006 - One of the protesters in a big march in Phoenix says immigrants are "here for the American Dream."

Police estimate at least 10,000 people joined the rally calling for more "humane" changes to immigration laws.

A 50-year-old resident of the city says the punitive measures being eyed on Capitol Hill are "racist." He says, "You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."

The protesters marched to US Senator Jon Kyl's office. He's sponsoring an immigration bill.

In Georgia, activists say thousands of workers took part in a work stoppage Friday to protest a measure passed by the state House Thursday.

It would deny state services to illegal immigrants and impose charges on their wire money transfers.

About 200 protesters gathered on the steps of the Georgia Capitol. Some had Mexican flags and others carried signs reading: "Don't panic, we're Hispanic."

Did you expect ZERO backlash against legislation cracking down on illegal immigrants? The following provision in HR 4437 is what has me most concerned re: criminalizing charity work done by Churches:

". . . assists, encourages, directs, or induces a person to reside in or remain in the United States, or to attempt to reside in or remain in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such person is an alien who lacks lawful authority to reside in or remain in the United States;"

Do you think that could never be applied to serving illegal aliens in a soup kitchen?

Hmmm? Sounds like a general contractor afraid his minimum wage help is going to disappear.

Some churches now have an underground railroad going to help illegals get established. Should that be overlooked also?

"You're not going to find terrorists outside a Home Depot looking for a job."

No, but you may find them inside a crowded stadium setting off a bomb, or releasing ricin on a subway car. When Juan and Mohammed both sneak across the border, how do we know who is who?

Of course, this all begs the question: "What part of 'illegal' don't you understand?" "Rights for illegals" is oxymoronic as well as just plain moronic.

They should not be "harboring" criminals. One hot meal, or a roof over their head for one night, is not "harboring" though.

Actually, the U.S. Constitution contains many "rights" whether you are a citizen or not.

It sure would be nice if the immigration boys would get together with the cops and load these mobs onto buses and take them back to Mexico.

And you are the only one to realize this?

These rallys are part of Hillary's election campaign in 08.

Did you read the proposed law (HR 4437) above? That seriously could be used against legitimate charities, and as soon as Priests start getting arrested for that, where do you think Hillary has positioned herself?

Some of those marching are U.S. citizens - can U.S. citizens no longer protest either?!

Sure, like the right to not be murdered. It doesn't include the right to work at Home Depot or the right to get a driver's license.

These churches need busting and quick. They are the same ones whipping up the dumbasses against the War and the President.
The sooner these phony Christian are exposed as criminal assessories the better.

Actually, the U.S. Constitution contains many "rights" whether you are a citizen or not.

And there are specific laws governing how one goes about becoming a citizen.

And more laws that state if you don't have the proper documentation to be here.........

You are in this country illegally.

You have committed a crime.

Just to be clear, if all a Church does is operate a soup kitchen and offer Holy Communion to illegal aliens, they need to be "busted and quick"?

NO ONE said they couldn't protest. Gawd, you are a broken record.

Did you know it's against the law in Mexico for ANY foreigner to protest? What do you think about that?

Well, the "crime" is entering the United States other than a at emarkation / debarkation point and not submitting to inspection within 48 hours. Short of HR 4437, being in the country "illegally" is simply a civil offense. I am an American citizen - what "proper documentation" am I supposed to have? What's next, your own little KGB?

The constitution was written before 20 million illegal criminals sneaked over the borders and forgot to assimilate and pledge allegiance to the American way of life.
