does anyone know what the Iraqi army called their decontamination units (assuming such units--as opposed to illegal defensive chemical warfare units--were legitimate)?
if the term they used was a different term, that would be more evidence that the chemical platoon was illegal.

Das Left doesn't have a trash can large enough to hold all of this stuff and the slow translation process will keep the wound open despite their attempts at denial....

as long as any war is going on, it can be a very tricky political issue. i can remember lyndon johnson massacre barry goldwater (in large part on war-related fears); then mccarthy, the peace candidate challenged johnson in the NH primary, and scared lbj out of the race. nixon won the general election as a peace candidate.
truman had some problems because of the korean war. (the repubs were for ending it.)
public opinion can turn really fast if a war becomes unpopular. that's why the wma issue is still important.

Sorry...

There are dozens of militaries all over the world that have no chemical weapons, but have chemical decontamination units and vehicles just like this Iraqi unit.

Keep in mind Iran has chemical weapons, and has used them, in the Iran-Iraq war (in smaller quantities than Iraq, but it still happened.)

I realize people desperately want to believe otherwise but reality has to be faced on this one. No particularly interesting smoking gun here.

On BIG caveat you did not mention:

The United States has renounced the use of chemical weapon since 1993 unless attacked in kind, and is in the process to destroying all its Chemical Weapons by 2007 that was started in the mid 1990s.

I doubt Saddam and his generals thought the US would be the first to strike them with chemicals in a war, which Iraq knew was a much greater possibility of war with the US than having a war with Iran.

goodnight--keep it up.
i'm still hoping the army will find the stuff buried in the desert, but that may never happen, so these documents could be very helpful.

Good example. I will add to that one the undertakings of these document translations. The more people that have access to information the better. Cannot fool all the people all the time.....

Rather's deal is the best example of them all.

Just think if all the oil for food goings on were public all the way through.....WOW.....much of what happened never would have. Sorry, i am dreaming now.... ;)

....and Congress is looking for a way to shut us down.

the damn fools WE are our countries best defense.

Hmmmm...Why would our government want to do that? That would be foolish, would it not? (/sarcasm)

"i got to the document thru the army intel link that you posted, but i still couldn't find the translation on the army web site.
is it there?"

That is not surprising considering that only about 3 percent of the documents have been officially translated.

"These Saddam documents just have to be killing the 'Rats behind closed doors."

you are wrong. they don't care and its yesterday's news. even if we found the WMDs, the libs would say that there is no connection with 9/11 therefore the war was illegal. they would find anything to discount anything the administration does. its alllllllll politics and the next battleground is 2006 elections. if congress is lost to the libs, there will be impeachment hearings. they won't care if bush is actually removed, they just want to embarass the repubs, and to validate their own anti-war talk. they are giving aid and comfort to the terrorists purely for the reason of gaining power in congress, heading up the committees, and being engulfed in self-absorption. it is sickening. And Sen. Hagel is contributing to it also.

The website was shut down on November 2nd 2006 after the IAEA complained to the New York Times that some secret aspects of Saddam nuclear program were published. Unfortunately the bureaucrats got their way and shut the website.

I take it these were secrets that the IAEA "missed" when they were supposed to be looking for them!
