Gee, how about a GOP controlled congress that cuts spending. Is that to much to ask?
To: Coleus
"....the party must get more aggressive on such values issues as marriage, human cloning, religious freedom and abortion" I'd add border security and gov't spending.

Nothing about borders or spending.

As a real conservative, I have been conned by the Republican Party FOR THE LAST TIME.
They're caving on the immigration bill. This means +10,000,000 more Democrat votes in 5 years. It's over.
The Republicans have gone absolutely suicidal. I'm willing to help drive the knife in.

I see they also conveniently forgot millions of illegal aliens and the disease and crime wave left in the wake of their invasion USA...

Hey Dummies. You forgot the #1 issue: Illegal aliens. Forget that, and you've lost me.

I think the game is just about done. I think the Republicans will almost certainly lose seats this fall, barring a stunning turnaround by Bush and the Republican Party to recapture conservative voters who will sit at home.
To: Coleus
Could it be that the Republicans are treating their base the same as the DeathoCrats treat their black base??

Republicans are miserable failures, incapable of governing, yet they expand government faster than any Democrats have since LBJ, maybe even more than LBJ.

Nothing will trump the illegal alien issue this Nov. and the GOP trembles at that reality.
To: Coleus
The Republican Party is about to go the way of the Whig Party. If they don't get some cajones, I and many others plan to sit out the next couple of elections. It won't make much difference anyway.

Gee, where I have seen this story before?
Oh yeah, now I remember.
I saw it in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

Reduce expenditures by keeping the borders tight. We, the taxpayers, fund all the illegals and their entire families here and in other Nations.
That reduces our ability to send our own children to colleges so that they can prepare for better lives.
Legal immigration is more than enough for this country.

Yep, the time is about right for the Republicans to return a healed economy back to the Democrats so they can send it back to the sick bed. Like a modern Hollywood movie, American politics are getting really predictable. Get your stocks in hand and your broker on the phone. Getter' done guys and gals.
Boy I hate being right all the time.

I guess i will give my two cents on this issue. Social conservative(which I am one) should be thanking their lucky stars for the past 6 years. We have been real fortunate we came into power when we did. I saw something good on the "corner" the other day. Its that social and economic conservatives need each other to get their people elected. Not only that but they need to be unified and still pick up some extra. For a quick history lesson look at the the popular vote in 2000 in the BUSH/Gore race. Then look at the fact that a 120,000 vote swing in Ohio would have given us Kerry as President.
Second. Immigration. I am sorry but the "get tough on illegal immigration" crowd have no one to blame but themselves when in the end no bill gets through. If they had reached a compromise we could have had something meaningful on Border Security and also that addressed the concerns of business and Hispanics. Yes Hispanics. We need to carry a percentage of that vote or we will go the way of the whig party. Often reaching out or listening to the Hispanic community as been labeled as "pandering" Pandering? That attitude is arrogance. The way that govt works is that you build coalitions. IF people view reaching out to different groups and trying to reach a understanding is pandering, then perhaps they need to return to basic a civics class. There are quite a few diverse threads of opinion in the Hispanic community on this issue. I know because I see it on my wife's side of the family. Oh well, the end result will be (1) no bill and (2) major problems with Hispanics many of whom would vote republican. This has been handled very very badly.

"Social-conservative groups have warned Republicans that their voters feel unappreciated and frustrated with Congress and that the party must get more aggressive on such values issues as marriage, human cloning, religious freedom and abortion if they want a decent turnout from the conservative base in November."What planet did I wake up on this morning?
I thought the "Republican" party was doing a fair job with the social issues. I'm just as concerned with runaway spending and runaway growth of the federal government.
I smell a spin from the Washington Times.

frustrated with Congress and that the party must get more aggressive on such values issues as marriage, human cloning, religious freedom and abortion if they want a decent turnout from the conservative base in November. I'd be happy if they just quit spending.
