The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) created a new, formal process for deportation called expedited removal. This process was established by Congress to remove certain inadmissible aliens from the United States. The law authorized the Commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service to designate certain groups of individuals for placement in expedited removal proceedings. Under expedited removal, individuals can be removed on an order issued by an INS officer. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) began implementing the expedited removal provisions of IIRIRA on April 1, 1997.
I believe that local governments can seize property used to facilitate the smuggling of illegals. Looking into it...
I don't think California landlords would like to hear that. The real estate is too valuable to risk. Unfortunately, local government in the land of Villaraigosa is not going to do anything.

Doug I think its a great idea. I love it when WE can do something other than sit around and complain. I've been a home health nurse for 12+ years. I cannot begin to tally the number of "indigent" patients we've taken on because they were illegal and injured on the JOB... I wish I had this number a few years ago.
The bottom line on the whole immigration issue is enforcing the laws esp holding the businesses accountable. I truly believe THAT is the key. Cut off the money supply - cut off the reason to jump the border. Also by policing businesses for illegals, you would start weeding out the illegals. I realize it's a long process but this did not get to be a problem overnight!
And the word I have is that property used to smuggle/transport illegal aliens can be seized. Just the same as property that has been used in the commission of a feloney can be seized.
Suck it up and do the right thing you wuss.
I will. After going to see how construction is going on my son's new home, I noticed all the workers are hispanics. I suspect they are illegals. Is that all I need is just to suspect? I hadn't called already because I thought I needed proof.
Remember... California wineries and vineyards hire lots and lots of illegals.
I don't know what proof you need, but I hope we are going to find out.

5. If you discover you have hired an illegal alien, what will you do about it?
When you are done with a call, give us a report. I am working on the way to confront a business that I am absolutely sure is hiring illegals. I think I want to do something like give them a 30-day warning and then all hell is going to break loose on them.
