Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

"Sometimes the "informed sources" on both sides of this debate are completely wrong. The media is interested in stirring the pot, the unions are mucking around in this issue, and there is a presidential election in Mexico in July. There are lots of external forces and players in this, and it is simply too early to either claim victory or write this off as a sell-out."

Wow! A voice of reason.

I am hopeful that we will end up with a good bill once they reconcile the house and senate. The key to stop future problems will be the fence.

"Ahhh, physical threats."

Keep hiding behind that keyboard.

No physical threat was mentioned.

Sometimes even a 10 year old has to be shown what reality is like.

Yes. Fortunately I ran her off.

And what reality would that be, Sweetheart?

Yes, I can see where you're coming from. Perhaps a 10-year-old would believe you weren't implying violence. As for the rest of us...

Sorry, I'm not of the "brokeback" gender so our meeting will not take place in a pup tent.

I don't know, Coop. Forgive me, but he might have been referring to some Bill Clinton type encounter.

The reality of what happens when a keyboard coward meets the people that put their live on the line to defend our country.

Have you got the meeting place picked out yet?

Okay, so it's not a gay liaison and it's [wink] not a physical threat. So exactly what will take place during this educational encounter? You gonna teach me about Marine Corps history? The top 47 uses for a canteen cup? Ya gonna learn me about blood stripes? (Oh wait, we've already established there'd be no violence.)

Are you said keyboard coward? If not, I'm afraid I'm not following you. I meet our brave troops virtually every day.

I'm not picking a meeting place until you set the agenda, Sweetie.

Wow. You must really think people around here (outside of your normal bunker crew) believe the fertilizier you incessantly spread.

Ya, but the bunker crew consists of about 80% of the population...

Coop can't keep me away for long. LOL! I came in for a glass of water and as usual had to check the news. (I have two debris bags full of sticks and weeds).

Thank you wmfights for the kind words.

We need to get border security, and the President knows that. What WE don't know is what else is going on that affects both his decision and the positions of certain people involved in the public debate.

For example, does Fox have a proposal to crack down on the border drug gangs in exchange for help with the new gas discovery? Is there screening of illegals going on when they are caught, with coyotes being turned in? Are there fake coyotes trolling for Arabic terrirsts trying to get into the country? Is Chavez funding the drug lords in order to overturn the Mexican elections, regardless of who wins?

All of those questions are simply from my Midwestern grandma brain, and I am certain there are thousands of other variables.

I want the border controlled both for national security reasons and because I think the illegals are, for a large part, taken advantage of by unscrupulous people here, both Americans and other illegals. I happen to like Mexicans. We have many who attend our church and actually dress up and their children are well-behaved, unlike some of the Anglos. I also have had contact with them in restaurants and in landscaping work I have had done, and they were the hardest working people I have ever met.

I don't want them here illegally, however. I want the illegals to go home and re-apply to come here legally. I want the border controlled with fences, air patrols, and watchtowers. I want coyotes arrested and put in jail.

Anyway, it is now time to go pull more weeds and dead-head perennials. I am just going to wait and see what bill comes out of Congress.

Sammon is now working for a different publication in Washington, D.C. Sorry I cannot recall the name.

Do read his book Strategery. If you want your blood to boil, that is.

I'm not sure what you are spewing on this one.

But I do have a pup tent that I do not intend to take.

From reading some of Coop's posts, he sounds like he can handle whatever comes his way.
