Teddy Roosevelt on Immigration
Wikiquote ^ | Unknown | Teddy Roosevelt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:50:20 AM PST by narby

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

There are no significant numbers of politicians promising to do what it takes to remove illegals from this country. If we can't get politicians to even promise something, then you can bet they won't do it.

So we're going to have to deal with 10+ million illegals somehow. The answer today is the same as it was in Teddy's day, assimilation. And the obstruction to doing that is liberalism, not the illegals themselves. We need to be fighting the liberals about assimilating new arrivals, rather than beating our heads on the wall of sending illegals home. Because that's just not going to happen, even if it is the "right" thing that should be done.

The Congress and the President are desperate to get this issue off the table, and they will do ANYTHING to America and its real citizens to make that happen. They are worried about votes, not America. Power and control are the top priority in Washington -- not doing what is right for America, and what the WILL OF THE MAJORITY dictates.

Washington is a disgrace and I am sure, a MAJOR embarrasment to our founding fathers.

Teddy would've been horrified to witness the sea of red, white, & green at the "protests" this last week.

We need to be fighting the liberals about assimilating new arrivals, rather than beating our heads on the wall of sending illegals home.

No, we need to discourage them from coming here in the first place and provide incentive for the ones already here to march back to their homeland. How? By cutting off their taxpayer freebies and heavily fining employers who hire them.

Why can't Washington grasp this simple formula?

Plus, no right to vote, and no citizenship for their spawn.

Teddy Roosevelt on immigration:

Puerto Rico and Panama look out baby cuz here we come. We are looking for a better economic future yo!

I say we apply the same doctrine today and air drop 500,000 hardy indivuduals to find their economic pot of gold in some oil rich parts of Mexico and Venezuela. Hey, this stuff works both ways. This civil invasion business is s sloppery slip.

Exactly. The liberal sickness that set these criminals up in the first place needs to be terminated. And the concept of "anchor babies" needs to be squashed. That is total BS. The entire thing is such a huge mess, fostered and perpetuated by Washington pols....our great "leaders". And of course, they have done an excellent job of protecting themselves from any serious accountability...their priorities are very clear.

Washington is a disgrace and I am sure, a MAJOR embarrasment to our founding fathers.

I can see Bush's finger prints all over what's going on right now. One of his priorities when he ran in 2000 was to normalize this situation.

I've noticed reports in the last year of tightening on the border, with employers of illegals griping they can't get enough workers. This ramps up the pressure on their side to ask for some kind of guest worker program.

Also, It's apparent that the Catholic Bishops have helped organize a lot of these marches. These were synchronized with a full-court-press in the senate by the Republicans. This is like when Reagan worked with John Paul II against the communists. It's good to see Bush has the brains to work quietly with the Catholic church.

All these things didn't happen by chance. Bush is synchronizing a very large effort to turn up the heat on everybody involved so that he can get a permanent and workable fix for this.

The greatest disgrace would be if nothing were done. Bush is making d@mn sure that something gets done. It won't be perfect, and nobody will be entirely happy. But I believe we will be better off if we can get the "illegal" stigma out of the way, and begin to assimilate these people. We simply must do that, or this country becomes Mexico North. Not by "revolution", but with demographics.

That's my Teddy--actually my great-grandmother's second cousin.

Sure glad I am related to Teddy and not Bush. If I were related to Bush, I would expunge the family tree.

Oh well. Great minds think alike. Who would have thought that a 90 year old quote would be pulled up twice. I didn't even look.

If the GOP is so worried about votes they'd do everything within their power to stop this invasion/amnesty, for there's no way in the RNC's wildest dreams that these people would ever vote Republican. ....no matter how enthusiastic their pandering/ass-kissing.

And of course the GOP should be worried about losing a significant number of their traditional voters if they continue to pursue this course. I'm sure they believe that we have "nowhere else to go," but they're dead wrong.

Yeah, it is called AMNESTY, all at the expense of the American citizen. This cannot be sugar-coated. Curing the symptom rather than the cause, is a failure and a cop-out upon American soverigty and the rights and majority mandates of REAL U.S. citizens. Bush has had SIX YEARS to do something meaningful with this situation and has done nothing tangible. I disagree he is in control of this or is in any way going to fix the real problem. With liberal leftist morons like McCain and Kennedy trying hard for AMNESTY, willing to give away America, its laws and soverignty and reward law-breaking criminals with citizenship is onto itself the real testimony about where our Congress sits on this issue...for once I agree with Frist and his position on this issue. Too bad his voice will be lost in the oinking of the vote-greedy Congress...

So we're going to have to deal with 10+ million illegals somehow.

No, they will have to deal with you!

Let me explain:

1] the number is low--probably 15 million.

2] about 5 million are here that came here illegally in the 1980s-early 90s and have become citizens but never assimilated and fly the Mexican flag. That takes it to 20 million.

3] Once manest hits, all the chicos and chicas, tias and tios, primas and primos, and dozens of other relatives and even amigas and amigos will find there way here in a hurry--add on about 50 million more. That takes it to 70 million.

4] the birth rate. The birth rate of theirs dwarfs the birth rate of American citizens. Look to add another 50 million babies real quick. That takes it to 120 million.

5] As quickly as you must say, "Debo apprender Espanol", we will be in the minority, the slum USA will be ruled by Mexicans, and we will be the ones carrying banners begging for representation that they control. The Senate, the House and the White House will be run by Mexicans.

Buy stock in Taco Bell and Pepto Bismo. Store water. (and ammo)

and begin to assimilate these people.

Assimilation is an impossibility when you're dealing with a people who view a large portion of the U.S. as Mexican land. They have no intention of ever assimilating, and they never will (despite our best efforts).

Again, providing incentive for them to go back home (and to never come here in the first place) is the only answer.
