and to this day, I have yet to hear mandatory sentencing for crimes using a firearm. I hear it for drugs but NOT for illegal use of firearms.
Why don't these "politicians" lobby for a harsh sentencing
- rob a store with a gun 10 yrs.
- shoot a person with a gun while committing a crime 20 yrs.
- kill a person with a gun while committing a crime, life

Bloomberg is an idiot-agreed. But mandatory sentencing is not a good idea for anything. What we need is tough laws and the ability to remove judges who fail to enforce them. But mandatory sentencing has a whole host of problems. take the three strikes law. You get caught drinking beer,or smoking pot, in a National Park(felony) as a third offense and you get a mandatory jail term-bad idea
