don't we have a law on the books, or IIRC we used to have one anyway, that says that a legal alien must have a sponsor and show that they can support themselves?

On an immigrant visa, absolutely. I had to sign my life away for my wife's fiancee visa. I committed that if she ever took public benefits for five years past her arrival, I was on the hook and signed a waiver of collection information for that money. It's a standard form. I have a sneaking hunch it's not being enforced. But it's on the books. That's something which needs to be computerized.

I believe it, RR! There's an Irish bar on the west side where I bet the bar staff isn't...well...totally legit.

They pour a mean pint though.

I knew then, this was setting up to be a "racist" thing..

Actually, Clint, there are 11,000 illegal Irish immigrants in the US. A lot of them live in NY and Boston and other places in the Northeast.

That's not the point. How many Irish protested in the streets with their flags when the congress was debating making it a federal crime enter the US illegally?

That answer is none so it's a non sequitur.

Get the duct tape ready before you read this. Your head will explode otherwise. LOL!

The Absurd Logic of Reconquista
The other side breathlessly reports on the success of the anti-anti-illegal immigration protests in Los Angeles, here and here (via The Corner). Here's a particularly charming graf from the Aztlan Rising site:

What does the immense success of "La Gran Marcha" mean to Mexicanos and other Latinos? It simply means that we now have the numbers, the political will and the organizational skills to direct our own destinies and not be subservient to the White and Jewish power structures.

They seem to have a particular issue with Jews:

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villagairosa, a Los Angeles Unified School District victim himself before he turned his life around, is already undertaking a bold moved to wrestle control of the district from a Jewish dominated school board and a White superintendent that are just fleecing the schools of much needed funds. School board Jews like Julie Korenstein, Marlene Canter, David Tokofsky, Jon Lauritzen and Mike Lansing are just enriching themselves and their cronies through crooked deals involving school construction projects, and contracts with so called consultants and vendors. The LAUSD is the second largest in the nation, next to New York, with a multi-billion dollar annual budget. It has an overwhelming Mexican and Latino student population. Jews have their own private schools so why are 5 Jews out of 7 school board members interested in governing the school district?

They're also pretty open about who their allies are, and their long-term plan for wresting control of "Aztla" from the Gringos:

A major reason for the great success of "La Gran Marcha" was the strong participation of labor unions and the Catholic Church. This same alliance contributed to the success of Lech Walesa's "Solidarity Movement" in the Republic of Poland. This can be done in Aztlan as well. If the racist "Sensenbrenner Legislation" passes the US Senate, there is no doubt that a massive civil disobedience movement will emerge. Eventually labor union power can merge with the immigrant civil rights and "Immigrant Sanctuary" movements to enable us to either form a new political party or to do heavy duty reforming of the existing Democratic Party. The next and final steps would follow and that is to elect our own governors of all the states within Aztlan.

disrespect for our flag, and America-bashing in general, has become accepted as "free-speech".

I've said it before - I believe that we need a candidate who is unashamedly patriotic and shouts it from the rooftops. I think the American people are hungry for it, we are made to feel embarrassed by it by the libs and the MSM.

after the horrors of 9-11, didn't flag-waving feel good and right? how long did "they" let us get away with it before making it un-PC, and why did we let them do it to us?

Politicians plead illegal immigrants’ case in US (Irish Illegals)
Irish Examiner ^ | 3/28/06 | Senan Hogan

Posted on 03/28/2006 7:01:42 AM PST by MineralMan

AN Oireachtas delegation is on a week-long US visit in a last-ditch lobbying bid for illegal Irish immigrants.

The US Senate will today begin its debate on the first comprehensive rewrite of the country’s immigration laws in a decade.

Hundreds of thousands of immigrants staged weekend protests on immigration reform in Los Angeles, Denver and several other cities. A delegation from the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee is today visiting Washington to lobby support for the Kennedy/McCain legislation which would allow illegals to stay in the US and work while applying for a green card and eventual citizenship.

Up to 50,000 Irish people are among the estimated 12 million undocumented people in the US.

Labour’s foreign affairs spokesman and delegation member, Michael D Higgins, said: “The Irish affected are forced to live in the shadows. This means that they run considerable risks of a health, social and economic kind.

“They are not free to return home for family events, births, deaths or funerals, and recent legislation has created new difficulties associated with even possessing a driving licence. The current atmosphere in the United States is such that the Kennedy/McCain legislation will face real difficulties. The delegation is hoping to have a number of meetings which would be helpful in this regard.”

The delegation will meet the newly-formed Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform which has been holding well-attended public meetings in major US cities.

The TDs and Senators will also hold talks organisations providing legal advice and welfare

Actually, according to the Irish Examiner, there were Irish immigrants demonstrating this past weekend. It doesn't say if they were waving Irish flags, though, so I will concede your point.

The Examiner also says there are 50,000 illegal immigrants in the US so I apologize.

I don't know if we have the law on the books but it doesn't appear we enforce it if in fact it still exists.

Canada will take people seeking asylum if they can prove they will suffer if sent back to their country of origin. However, they have really tightened up their immigration rules over the last year or two.

We have a home in Nova Scotia and, though we would like to eventually retire there, we will still have to maintain a residence in the US because we wouldn't be allowed to stay there all year round. Mind you, I have no intention of giving up my American citizenship, I just love the sea and Nova Scotia is still very reasonable when it comes to land on the water. We bought our house 18 years ago. It was cheaper than my used Ford Focus.

Tony -

You may wish to investigate this little tidbit. Credit freeper ravingnutter:

I find this very interesting considering one of the organizations that is organizing the immigration protests in Detroit is ACCESS. Seems their President, Noel Saleh (name found on the "Staff" page) is an ACLU lawyer and supports terrorists:
Noel Saleh. The thrice-disciplined attorney (who was suspended from the practice of law) openly stated at a townhall meeting with federal officials that he has financially contributed to Hezbollah. He heads an Arab welfare agency that gets millions in our tax dollars, yet was raided by the FBI for engaging in Medicaid fraud. The organization also spent thousands in our tax dollars on "job training" (commercial driving lessons and attempts at HazMat hauling certificates) for two men indicted as members of the Detroit al-Qaeda terror cell. He has represented a number of Islamic terrorists, including Ibrahim Parlak and "former" PFLP terrorist Imad Hamad.

Front Page Magazine

Another article:

ACCESS may be the most frightening funder of the conference because its chief, Ismael Ahmed, is running for University of Michigan regent in the November elections. And because American tax dollars fund his organization American tax dollars which he then used to pay for this hateful conference.

According to its latest annual report, in 2001, ACCESS got at least 73.6% of its $10.2 million annual revenue from taxpayers. ACCESS, North America's largest Arab welfare agency, funded commercial driving lessons and attempts to get hazardous-materials hauling certificates for Ahmed Hannan and Karim Koubriti, members of Detroit's recently indicted al-Qaida cell. When confronted by the press, ACCESS chief and Michigan regent candidate Ahmed dismissed their al-Qaida membership as a mere "political credential."

After 9/11, ACCESS organized and publicized in The Detroit News a campaign against universities cooperating with federal agents trying to find foreign students linked to terrorism.

ACCESS, which thinks nothing of funding the anti-Semitic hate conference in Ann Arbor, was paid $1.3m. to provide "sensitivity training" to the Dearborn Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Department, and Dearborn and Detroit Public Schools. Ahmed also opposed the Clinton Counter-terrorism Act of 1996 because it prohibited donations to terrorist groups, including Hizbullah and Hamas.

Everyone should be concerned not just with the hate and support for terrorism that went on at the University of Michigan Divestment Conference, but with who is funding it not only those closely associated with al-Qaida and Hamas, but unwitting American taxpayers themselves. Hopefully they will keep that in mind, as they go to the polls to hold accountable legislators who freely gave American tax money to ACCESS, and an irresponsible U-M Regent candidate, Ahmed the man who misused their money to foment hate and support terrorism.

The Irish Examiner also mentions a "huge Irish rally" in DC this past weekend. I'm looking for pictures now to see what they were doing.

That's not the point. How many Irish protested in the streets with their flags when the congress was debating making it a federal crime enter the US illegally?

They don't protest against America

But they do hold up the Irish flag during a parade like St. Patty's day

There is a HUGE different between a Holiday parade and a Protest Rally against the US

But there are some who want people to think they are the same to make their point
