Tonight I was watching the news from St. Louis. The had a story on about how an Iraqi was arrested in rural Missouri today. He was on a gravel road and had 2 stolen cars and a U-haul with him. He was acting odd and someone happened to notice him and called police. They also found on him a money wire receipt for $25,000 that he sent to Iraq. He claimed he was from Dearborn, MI and he kept changing his story of why he was in Missouri. He was also a soldier in the Iraq war.
His name is Nazar Malla (I got two hits on him when I googled his name, one includes a picture of him that matches up with the guy they showed on the news tonight. The picture was taken in Dearborn, MI during the Iraq election)
The area they caught him in is very rural and there are no Arabs living in this area so he of course would stick out big time. They busted him near Irondale, MO.
The FBI now has him in custody.

I could not find a report in written form, yet (sorry). But I found this interesting and I wonder if this will be the last that we hear about it?
I wonder what he was up to?
Was he stealing cars and then selling them for cash to send to Iraq?
Who was he wiring the money to in Iraq?
$25,000 USD is alot of Dinar's

Nothing to see in missouri. Nothing of strategic significance. He must have been passing through to Arkansas.
To: stlnative
Where in MO did they catch him??? Not down by Springfield, where they have the truck school with all the muzzies, I hope?

Well, I suppose it is possible that he is just a crook...
'Stealing cars that Americans won't steal'... (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)
But I imagine they will find some baathist and/or Al Quaeda emails on his computer, or something like that.
To: stlnative
I wonder if this will be the last that we hear about it? From the MSM? Yes. "Nothing to see here, folks. Just keep moving along."
I wonder what he was up to?
Why does the phrase "No good" come to mind?
It ain't over. And the fat lady (no offense to "svelte-challenged" ladies like me) hasn't even begun to flex her vocal chords yet.
Be aware and stay alert.

The picture was taken in Dearborn, MI Of course.

US car theft rings probed for ties to Iraq bombingsWASHINGTON -- The FBI's counterterrorism unit has launched a broad investigation of US-based theft rings after discovering that some of the vehicles used in deadly car bombings in Iraq, including attacks that killed US troops and Iraqi civilians, were probably stolen in the United States, according to senior government officials.
To: knuthom
Saying this area is rural is an understatement. This is literally the middle of nowhere. Very very weird.
To: knuthom
Tomorrow I will post pictures of the area. They showed pictures on the TV and we are talking extremely rural and off the beaten path. Nothing but winter wheat and corn fields. It is about 80+ miles south of St. Louis.
Highway 55 is the red line highway to the right of Farmington.

Interesting, and I'll bet we hear very little more about the arrest of this Iraqi in Missouri. The FBI are not a talkative bunch in situations like this.

It may lead to a cell.
The 9/11 terrorists moved about in
benign areas of the country in addition
to places where no one would take notice of
them.
This guy was in the heartland. Somethings up.
I bet he gets on hell of an interrogation and I hope they
put out cigars on his body to find out what he is up to.
Everyone is pretty much in agreement that another attack
is forthcoming only because of the lax attitude and porous borders.
Too busy searching 80-year old women in wheelchairs at the airport and whether or not you have fruit or vegetables going across state lines.
We are getting complacent.
To: Minus_The_Bear
That's him... I'll post the pictures tomorrow they had of him on the news, plus the rural road they caught him on.
(This was a big enough of a story for KMOV St. Louis news to send cameras out just to take video of an empty rural road. That was all they showed though.)

I'm expecting something to happen that will include many small out-of-the-way places.

The last I remember, I think Jayna told me he was in the Boston area and was getting all kinds of deliveries of boxes. She was concerned and saw that the law enforcement knew he might be up to something. Jayna is going to be totally vindicated, I hope sooner rather than later.

Her book ends without really saying what happened to the guy, if I remember correctly. I figured she did it that way for legal reasons. I meant to email her back and compliment her on the book. I still remember her from school...and it is strange how life works out.

I have family member who saw two Arabs similarly driving an unmarked rental truck in the middle of nowhere, and they stopped to ask how to get to Minneapolis. They had no map, were from Sioux Falls, SD, and were shocked to hear how far Minneapolis was away from where they were.
If they were working, would their employer not have given them directions? or their friends or family if not working?
Since it sounded like they flew into Sioux Falls, with plans to rent a truck to get to Minneapolis, at least 4½ hours away, this incident was reported to the local PD.
They were not interested in following up.

Why don't you email Kmov and ask them. The story is not in print form yet and I clearly stated this in my first post. It will most likely be in the St. Louis newspaper tomorrow and once I find it in written form on the internet I will post the link.

Would you please correct my link in the header.
We have found the link on the internet for the story.
http://www.kmov.com/localnews/stories/kmov_localnews_060331_iraqiFBI.7d5eaa2d.html
(this is the written report)
(here is a snippet from the story at the link above)
The sheriff said when deputies arrived that night they found Malla about 50 yards off the road by himself, but there were four vehicles. When they asked him how that could be the sheriff says his answer just didn't make sense.
"He would tell one story one time than the next time you'd ask him the same question and it would be something totally different," said Sheriff Kevin Schroeder.

Well he bonded out, chances are they set the bond low intentionally.
If there was more than one of them, they will stick out like a sore thumb in this area of Missouri. If any autos are stolen in the area since the cops have their rides now, it will be reported.
