Bloomberg: Illegal immigrants help golfers

NEW YORK, April 1 (UPI) -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says golf fairways would suffer if illegal immigrants were returned to their native country.
"You and I are beneficiaries of these jobs," Bloomberg told his WABC-AM radio co-host, John Gambling. "You and I both play golf; who takes care of the greens and the fairways in your golf course?"
However, Robert Heaney, general manager of Deepdale Golf Club -- a Long Island course where Bloomberg often plays -- told The New York Daily News that no illegal immigrants work at the club.
"Deepdale Golf Club has always been in 100 percent compliance with all immigration laws, and it is absolutely our policy to remain in compliance with all immigration laws," Heaney said.
The mayor also said 25 percent of undocumented immigrants are farm workers and many are home healthcare workers.
"Nobody wants to deport them, in the end, because people need them to take these jobs and do the things that nobody else is doing," Bloomberg said.

I'm curious. Do home healthcare companies vet their employees or do any sort of background check? If you think about it, it should be VERY scarey that any significant number of home healthcare employees are illegal. That means they are not REALLY checking out the people who come into homes and care for the ill and the elderly. Doesn't give one a warm fuzzy...

I guess if you cater to billionaires, you can afford to hire American workers.
This is certainly not the case at the 9 holes for 15 bucks kind of course.

As much as I can`t stand this guy, I must say at least he is honest. Such as when they asked him if he ever smoked pot and he said "Yes, and I enjoyed it". Honest, but on the other hand the people of NORML will never stop using that quote in ads for the next 990000 years.

I have an uncle who is the head of grounds maintinance at the local country club and he doesn't hire illegals. An ex girlfriends father is head groundskeeper at another local course and he has two of his sons on the crew with him.
What's the deal with these idiots and their inability to stop insulting their fellow Americans.

So, then they know they are hiring illegal aliens? AND more to the point, can you really do a criminal background check on an illegal alien (I mean can your average business do it)?

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says golf fairways would suffer if illegal immigrants were returned to their native country. I had to first double check to make sure this wasn't from Scrappleface.
But now I'm convinced. Heck lets start sending buses to Mehico so we can be sure that none of our currently pristine golf fairways turn to rough.
More jobs taken from America's youth. I recall my brother working at a golf course while he was a teen during summer recess from high school. I guess all those teens are now making 50k a year at their summer jobs so we need illegal immigrants to maintain the golf courses.

"Bloomberg: Illegal immigrants help golfers"
Forget the high hifalutin moralist rhetoric by the pro illegals, this is what it is really about. They refuse to pay Americans a decent wage, they want second class humans they can exploit on the cheap.
To: Moonman62
One day they will sue for reparations. You are sooooooo right.
And all the evidence they'll need to win is in print everywhere you look, praising them because they work so cheaply.
To: TheForceOfOne
That's exactly what it is... every argument in favor of illegals is a throwback to the days of slavery. Couldn't run our economy without them. They're better off here even under such conditions than back home. Etc.

These people keep making excuses for illegals to break our laws. I wonder if they make excuses for bank robbers, gang members, etc. too?

And President Bush says over and over again ad nauseum that they are doing the work Americans won't do. President Fox has already chimed in and said they are doing the work blacks won't do. I wish they would go ahead and sue now.

One day they will sue for reparations. How's this for a start?
Unión del Barrio sees the land question as fundamental to resolving the current conditions under which the great majority of nuestro pueblo live as a colonized and oppressed population. Far from apologizing for our beliefs, our position is that we want back the lands that were illegally taken from the Mexican nation, and which continue to be illegally occupied. Furthermore, we want reparations and compensation for the wealth and natural resources that have been exploited from these territories and from our labor. These demands are based both on historical fact and international law. This is why we support and applaud those Mechistas who have had the courage and principle to uphold the land question.
WHAT CAME FIRST? MEChA OR CRUZ BUSTAMANTE?

Let's face it, the rich have found new slaves and call it legitimate by paying them wages albeit small wages.
As for politicians, who are also in the rich category, they're going to do all they can to insure they don't disenfranchise the hispanic voting block.
To: diverteach
The new spin is that we can't let Fox lose in Mexico or a socialist/communist will win in the next election....does this give you an idea how 11 million new citizens from that country will vote?
This scare tactic propaganda is getting rediculous...i don't buy it anymore.

Illegal immigration is a question of the fundamental legitimacy of our government. If the government is the legitimate representative of the people, and we the people legitimately rule ourselves, then laws made pursuant to the Constitution which binds us as a nation must be enforced by the government. To not enforce the immigration law is in effect saying the Congress is not the one making the rules in the USA.

"I'm curious. Do home healthcare companies vet their employees or do any sort of background check?"
I used to work in HR for a skilled nursing facility and home health group in Oregon. We did background checks on every single employee that we hired. The employee had to give a social security # and drivers license # for the check. In addition we would call the SSA and verify the SS#, birth date and name for each employee. If the info didn't match, I would bring it to the employee's attention. I caught at least one illegal that way. He left work on his own after I told him that he needed to visit the SSA and resolve the problem.
The state agency that oversees nursing homes in Oregon checks to see if criminal background checks are done. They do this during an annual audit of the facility. I would hope that other states do the same.
