Free Republic is a conservative site
. . . and proudly so. Any publication, broadcast, or web site must be edited to appeal to a particular audience.

The audience FR is edited to appeal to is adult, not adolescent. It is adult, in the sense that adults behave themselves for the benefit of children. And adult in the sense that it promotes the preservation of "the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity."

By openly proclaiming its perspective, FR avoids the vice of arrogance which besets "objective" journalism.

The problem is that too many FReepers refuse to look at the immigration issue in a reasonable, thoughtful manner. They refuse to take into account the economic impact that displacing a workforce will cause. They also refuse acknowledge that by harping on illegal immigration, they're helping to undo gains among Hispanics that the GOP has made.

"We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government."

You're right, we don't. We leave that to the liberal sites!

Seriously, though, I like this site. It's very well- moderated, I feel like all of us here can talk about anything without it getting too intense or too personal. There's another site I visit, themuseumofleftwinglunacy, which isn't as well- moderated, and as a result, there are a bunch of extremely obnoxious left- wing trolls who always post annoying things on the site, not limited to personal attacks on conservative posters, and stuff which has absolutely nothing to do with the topics being discussed. For instance, the most recent topic brought up by the site's curator was concerning the ACLU and Planned Parenthood attempting to pass legislation against crisis pregnancy centers for false and misleading advertisement (Even though they had no evidence of any such incidents done on the part of the crisis pregnancy centers). We had a good discussion of it going for a while, but after a little bit, some of the liberal trolls started completely changing the subject until it turned into a disjointed debate over illegal immigration and the Plame/ Wilson scandal. I've also noticed that the trolls on that site don't usually try to change the subject like that unless they're really losing the argument over the issue at hand.
I'm so glad crap like that doesn't happen here.
Keep up the good work, guys!

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site ...... Taxation

Here's a whimsical thought. Let's make Mexico our 51st State, use it as a proving ground for the Fair Tax, and watch all the folks in Arizona, New Mexico, California, and other states run to Mexico. Oh, and don't forget the bottled water.

;-)

From the bottom of this Pennsylvanian's heart, thank you for this superb site. It really is by far the best in the country.

Jim, I will abide by your rules because I love FR, this Country, and the party. (well most in the party)

BUT we are being baited and angered by all the coverage of the Mexican flag waving, the articles that say our children are not allowed to wave the AMERICAN flag, my Dad died to preserve that flag and all it stands for.

We are baited and angered by seeing criminals getting away with lawbreaking, our borders need strict control.

It's very difficult to sit by and watch all that we have worked for and believed in be threatened by the liberal socialist. Couple that with the party you trust to make it right are leaning with the left it makes for an explosive situation.

I go on record here and now that I have never in all my rants put down our President and never would yet a new poster accuses me of the very thing I have not done which I will never just sit and be attacked in that manner and I will defend myself.

Again as I said I will abide by your rules and I appreciate the latitude afforded us who are angered by an explosive issue.

Given the conditions, I'm wondering if you can/will stay based in California for much longer. It seems that the liberal tide there keeps reaching for more and the resistance keeps shrinking. If that is why you stay - then as the Aussies say "Good on you Mate"!

I just wonder how your tax situation is and how much of our contributions are being redistributed? Anyway my contribution is on its way now!

The Communist Party USA has not run a candidate of their own over the last few presidential elections, and have instead endorsed the Democrat candidate.

In Senator Kerry's case, they even did "get out the vote" work (though you have to wonder if they made their Communist affiliation clear -- I suspect that they merely identified themselves as "progressives".)

If the Democrats were to gain either the House or the Senate, we can forget even trying to make any progress on budget items such as social security or cutting spending, and with the complicity of certain "republicans", the Democrats would try to push through more gun control. The list in the initial posting is an excellent reminder on just how far the Democrats are from normal Americans: they hold the wrong position on every item on that list.

(The most ironic of all the items is perhaps oil/energy. The Communist government of Cuba is doing what the lefties all are fighting against here: they and their partners (Venezuela, Cuba, and Canada) are developing more Gulf of Mexico oil resources.)

Great list, and great reminder. I can only hope and pray that many of the malcontents will read and realize how true it is.

"And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>............
This may well be the last issue..if we have millions of third worlders coming here..marxist/communist/socialists will gain power with their votes. As we have seen in the streets the power of the left to get these Illegals to march in our cities..Jim you are way off base here and seem to have given up on a strict bill to control the border. I am greatly disappointed at your readiness to give up the borders and our politics to millions of illegals.

I am guilty myself of spouting off about the illegals attacking a 79 year old WWII Vet yesterday. I should have held my tongue instead of planting it firmly in my cheek, while I made a rhetorical statement about illegal aliens.

You are correct in every word in your post, and I will send my check today (once again) in support of FR and Conservatism! Thanks you Jim!

" I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm."

IMO brute force took this country, that and very hard work has built it to be what it is/was, when the time comes to take it back, it will be needed again......... to ignore history is a fatal mistake

The most terrifying threat from a Demcrat Congress majority would be Charles B Rangel (D-NY-15th)as Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. All together with Speaker Pelosi.

The threat of nontaxpayers dictating to the taxpayers is an irreverable power shift we can not allow.

Jim,

My heartfelt thanks for founding and keeping this forum running.

But we are going to have to agree to disagree.

IMO The President and the Senate have sold out the middle class to the corporations (via Off-shoring and illegal Immigration).

A strong middle class has been the one thing that has differentiated our Republic from Britain, France, Germany and Italy.

I shudder when I think of the whole U.S. becoming like east LA.

IT'S WRONG and I will not be compliclit to it by being quiet. Why are you ?
