"this isn't in a church, though."

Doesn't matter if it is or if it isn't. The sign of the Cross is holy to a great number of people and such an emblem at the site where 3000 met their Maker on that horrible day should have the highest place of honor.

This isn't a crucifix, it's a peice of metal (among 1000s) that happened to be shaped like a cross.

It does matter. I don't see how a clear thinking person cant distinguish between a terrorist attack site and a church.

>The cross could go there IF the "earthly powers" of NYC cannot be persauded to keep the cross at ground zero.

The City has no say over the Port Authority.

If we had just built a big glass case around it and filled it with urine, there never would have been a peep.

I lived in Manhattan for about 10 years, from the mid 70's to mid 80's. I haven't been back since then and I really would like to go say a prayer at the WTC site.

I worked in a gas station on East B'way. in the late 60's. All the steel came over the Manhattan Bridge in front of my shop on the way to the the site. From 70 to 92 I worked in and around those buildings. I would see them daily from my living room window in Woodside, Queens. When I moved to WV in 02, every time I would return to the city, while on I78, my stomach would knot up at sight of that hole in the skyline. I was offered the opportunity to enter 140 West St. just days after the attack, I passed. I don't think I could ever handle seeing that hole.
