LEOLA, Pa. -- Six bodies were recovered from a Lancaster County home, four of them wrapped in sheets and blankets in the basement, authorities said.
Police yesterday announced they had discovered five bodies at the home, one of them with obvious head wounds. Lancaster County Coroner G. Gary Kirchner today said the number was actually six.
Authorities found hair, blood and bone fragments upstairs, and a hammer was found in one of the bedrooms, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in the case.
Investigators were speaking to a "person of interest" Thursday morning, East Lampeter Township police said in a statement. Both police and Mr. Kirchner said they hoped to release more information later in the day.
Mr. Kirchner said autopsies were scheduled for today and that he has not been able to identify any of the bodies, which were found yesterday afternoon.
"I have no IDs whatsoever," Mr. Kirchner said. "When I was there, all the bodies were still covered."
Police have not said how they believe the people died.

They were just discussing this on Fox News. It sounds like children, perhaps as young as 4, may be among the victims.
Amish ping?
News Conference is schedule at about 11:30 ET/10:30 CT
I don't think this was an Amish family. Neighbors mentioned cars coming and going.
I love that label. It's almost as silly as "handicapable".

LEOLA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Police checking on a home in a tiny southeast Pennsylvania town discovered a gruesome scene: six bodies, some wrapped in sheets and blankets in the basement, and blood, bone fragments and a hammer upstairs, authorities said Thursday.
(snip)
Jessie L. Wise, 60, the owner, was in New York and told the friend he was worried because he hadn't heard from his family since Friday, authorities said.
"Person of interest" seems to be new code in the past two or three years for "the obvious suspect, except we don't have slam-dunk evidence to arrest him yet".
I read somewhere that finding the bodies already covered usually indicates a familial or other close relationship with the victim. I can't remember where though, so don't hold me to that
That crazy guy they knew... who had a record a mile long... and was let out of prison after he 'found Jesus'.
Nancy Grace?
Dad was out of town. Just sayin..........
Jessie D. Wise, 21, is the name of alleged perp just arrested.

FoxReporter said 'instrument' (weapon) may have been a hammer that has been recovered.
[Even FoxReporter missed the police saying who the 6th victim was.]
1 Boy may have been 5 years old.

LEOLA, Pa. (AP) - April 13, 2006 - Police checking on a home in a tiny southeast Pennsylvania town discovered a gruesome scene: the bodies of six people, some wrapped in sheets and blankets in the basement, and blood, bone fragments and a hammer upstairs, authorities said Thursday.
At 11:30am, officials are currently holding a news conference and announcing the names of the victims as well as information about an arrest in the case. All of the victims are apparently members of the same family, and the suspect is also apparently a member of the family. Action News reporter Vern Odom is on the scene and will have an update on Action News at Noon.
Police checking on the home discovered the gruesome scene: the bodies of six people, some wrapped in blankets in the basement, and blood, bone fragments and a hammer upstairs, authorities said Thursday.
Jesse Wise, whose grandfather owned the home, was charged with six counts of homicide, police said
Authorities did not immediately say how the victims died. Officials have now said they all died from multiple traumas.
Police initially reported discovering five bodies in the home after a friend of the homeowner called 911 Wednesday afternoon saying the owner had called concerned about his family.
Jessie L. Wise, 60, the owner, was in New York and told the friend he was worried because he hadn't heard from his family since Friday, authorities said.
The friend, John Sean Adams, 24, called police about 3 p.m. Wednesday and entered the home with East Lampeter Township police Officer Samuel Sanger.
According to the affidavit, Adams went into the basement, stopped halfway down the steps and turned back and yelled, "They're all dead."
Sanger discovered "at least four people lying on the basement floor clearly lifeless," the affidavit says. It wasn't immediately clear where the other two bodies were found.
Leola, a town of about 750 residents in Lancaster County, is 45 miles southeast of Harrisburg.
I've heard that on one of the Court TV shows. Some random person would kill them and get out. You really need a reason to go to the trouble of leaving fingerprints &s, possibly getting some of the body's blood/hair/fiber on yourself, taking the extra time, and so on.
Somebody "close" to the victim (except that he killed him) would be the only one who can't stand the sight of the body just lying there unnaturally.

Were these all the same family and not cousins? Very odd to name brothers the same name, and just a recipe for trouble. (No, the name didn't cause a murder, and yes, George Foreman is a nut.)
