35 hours per week spent commuting at a minimum. If he couldn't telecommute he could instead get a second job and afford to live closer.
For many years my commute was 11 minutes of walking through a U. campus each way, and I'm moving to telecommuting:) (Just ended that job to work on my own business ideas.)

I used to commute from Stockton to the Cisco home office (~140 miles/day) and almost went insane with the time spent in the car. I moved out of my trophy house and came closer in once I realized that my family is far, far more important.

Can't dudes just pee in a bottle and keep driving?
With so many potholes and ruts in the road, it's risky unless you don't care about your car, your pants, or your passengers.

It adds 2 minutes onto my five minute commute. My commute is about 40 mins or so, but I am driving a 2005 Vette so it is not so bad. :-)

most telecommunciations companies I've worked for don't allow telecommuting.
it's more important for managers to be able to look over shoulders, preside over 'food day',and have meetings about
'office norms'.

Can't dudes just pee in a bottle and keep driving? Wow, that gives a whole new meaning to the old Jim Croce song, "If I Could Save Time In A Bottle"...

that's probably true..I used to work for a company in Atlanta that had a specific policy AGAINST telecommuting even as local gov't called for more of it to alleviate traffic woes..they had the same mindset..if they couldn't see you, you weren't working..

How'd you like to stall out at 500 ft, and die because Ford built a crappy car. Then don't a Ford...get a BMW with a parachute system and a big airbag.

Before I lived in SF, I commuted from Modesto for all of three weeks, I learned really early on to not look tooooooo close at what the driver next to me was doing. :)

If I Could Save Time In A Bottle"...Just don't save it for the return commute. Reminds me of that scene in Dumb and Dumber in which Jim Carry...we'll, you remember.

I wouldn't want to be coming up the other side of Hwy 152 (or 120 or whatever the route is) when this guy is headed my way. One of these days he's likely to drift over...

Givens, however, has no plans to change his routine any time soon after running the same route since 1989." He gets a luxury model company car and makes 7 figures a year, right? Right?
